BotW: Gift to Wii U Owners?

We know Nintendo had access to the code for 5.5.1 exploits for almost a year before BotW release (at least)! So why not patch it up with a nice 'security and stability' update before releasing the most anticipated game of the console, maybe of the decade?? Sure they could have been too busy making BotW to care about patching hacks, but the 3DS has released 4 system updates since the Wii U 5.5.1 hacks were made public. Could it really be a parting gift of sorts to those of us that bought the Wii U?

Nintendo has a history of rewarding their most loyal fans, and while I agree this is a little far fetched, why didn't they patch it, unless they didn't want to? The Wii U was a failure by most standards, yet they know their most loyal fans have spent hundreds, some of us thousands of dollars on the console. I can say if you bought a Wii U, you are one of Ninty's most loyal fans, because not that many people bought the Wii U. Without us, they really would have sunk.

I also know and Nintendo does too, that as a loyal fan (ok Nintendo fan boy) I'll buy a Switch when I have the money, and I know I'll buy a copy of BotW on it too (as long as they patch up that frame rate issue on TV mode :)), even though I'm playing it right now courtesy of, or at least more easily, because of the mysterious lack of updates.

Not that I'm complaining. I didn't want to buy a console because I don't have an hdmi tv and I like portables. Then...it was like Bayonetta 1/2, ZomiibU, Splatoon, and Breath of the Wild...so I had to get it. Plus, hacking the Wii U is a breath of fresh air. Just toss stuff into your sd card and you can't really mess it up.

Although I might have to self-host the exploit myself.

They let this system die. As they should. Nobody is buying it, so why spend money on it? Better spend it on the new shiny thing...

They definately didnt leave it as a "gift" as only 0.01% of people hack their consoles.

Nintendo planned it for the Wii U first, and then for the Switch. It's not a gift, it just made sense to release it and get as much money as they can for Wii U sales. Wii U hacking is a very small amount of us, no denying that. I bought Breath of the Wild and instantly ripped it to my HDD, I didn't know BOTW was on the Wii U Helper yet, lol

They absolutely let the system die. The first few months of the Wii U were uncomfortable as it was released to mostly bleak and negative reviews. Most fans were 'afraid' or 'worried' about the success of the Wii U after the runaway success that was the Wii. The lack of third party titles was evident on the Wii U and it absolutely contributed to it's early death.

I for one absolutely love my Wii U (with the hacking, even more) and the vWii being so hackable it's so many consoles in one, with emulators, Nintendont and much much more. But for most end users, they won't be able to see that.

Nintendo don't even seem to care, even slightly, about hacking. I don't foresee a single case brought against hackers or pirates of the Wii U. They've completely given up on it and now the community basically owns it.

How do you explain the lack of updates then? They seem pretty focused on 3DS updates, which the Switch will also be replacing.

I'm not saying I'm right, this was more of a day dream, why I put it in the blog section :D

@Benja81 I would like to point out that hackers suggest that the Switch OS is like the 3DS OS, so...

That is a pretty good point, if this reasoning holds-up, then maybe they want to patch as much as possible on 3DS to be prepared for Switch exploits, or stop them before they start.

Although others have also pointed out that even though they are based on the same OS, it is kinda like trying to hack windows 8 based on WinXP exploits.

I don't really do hacking, I just follow other's directions after they hack things lol, so your guess is good as mine.
