Castlevania : The animated series

So, just noticed that season 1 of Castlevania got released on the Netflix, and I watched it yesterday. Honestly, it's not what I expected. It's really mature, with a really old school vibe.

Storywise, nothing really happens, it's only 4 episodes, and they feel like an introduction. But a very good intro IMHO. The thing that got me hooked is really how they depict the church vs. science fight, and all the moral questions around it. I don't want to spoil, but if you like to think a little bit, you will hear very interesting views on this subject. Maybe a little bit cliché, but very interesting nonetheless.

My only problem with this show is the voice acting, it sounds a bit eerie. And sometimes the animation looks a bit weird, but it's kind of going with the old school vibe. But besides that I would give the show a solid 4/5, maybe 4.3/5 depending on what's next.

Did you watch it? What did you think of it?

There will be season 2, with more episodes. I expect this to get into three seasons, then a new chapter. Hope SotN gets a turn.

" Influenced" being the operative word. It's a western (us, Canadian) animation. Think batman and robin, that sort.

Edit: canarian lol

The animation reminds me of The Boondocks actually. But yeah, it's clearly not an anime, first because it's not Japanese, and you can clearly see the western touch. So an hybrid if you like, but definitely not an anime.

I just watched it and liked it.
like you said it's slow paced and Trevor Belmont is more spectator in this world, but it should change in the next 8 episodes of season 2 :)

I wasn't sure I'd like Shankar's work, I was afraid of his view on the story and how it would look visually, but I'm nicely surprised.
it's both dark and with some humor too, not too much. The design and animation is correct.
The english voices are not bad (even though I'm not used to english Voice over, so I'm not a good critic here)

The story is a good adaptation and doesn't conflict with the game's story. it follows the global chronology correctly.

For users wondering, it's covering Castlevania 3 - Dracula's Curse (NES) story, a very early chronological episode in all the story.
An event in 1470 (1471 in the animation instead of 1476 for the game), only one game cover the story before that date (Castlevania - Lament of Innocence, in 1095)

we now have to wait for Season 2 in 2018
Maybe we will get Adi Shankar's Assassin creed first?

I not sure if there is version with Japanese voices because i miss the Japanese voices.

@Clau46 I think the original dub is the English one (not sure).

@Lilith Valentine Why didn't you like it? I can totally understand, but I would love to know what you think about it :)

@Cyan Yeah, just saw that the show was confirmed for season 2. The production also said that the pace is going to change, so let's see what happens :)
