The World of F2P 2: Electric Boogaloo

More F2P games came across my radar, so here's some more impressions.

Most notable would actually be Blacklight Retribution. The original game never caught my interest, a lot of people branded it as "CoD but cheap" but a friend of mine said that Retribution was actually really good and I decided to give it a shot. And I do think it's pretty good. It's not a straight up CoD clone, not by any means. There's tons of customization, some neat gameplay aspects (like the ability to see through walls or call down mech suits to fight in), and it didn't even feel overly free-to-playish since the in-game economy works well with your normal winnings from playing the game. I'm still only scratching the surface but this does feel like a great gem of F2P shooters.

Second is Super Monday Night Combat. The original game I decided to skip on with no regrets. All my friends hyped it, said it was gonna be super active and a great game, but within a week it was basically dead on the Xbox 360. When SMNC was released, a lot of people said it was kinda like a MOBA meets, well, Monday Night Combat. So for free, what the hell not? I enjoy it to an extent, I do feel it's really locked in being free to play though as there's only a small selection of Pros to choose from without either purchasing the rest with real money or spending way too much time wracking up in-game coins from matches. But it does play alright, the humor is nice, and its stayed on my desktop.

Not a free to play game but I'll throw it in here anyways is On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. I got the first two episodes for $3 on Steam. I'm only about 40 mins into the first one but so far the writing is very sharp and the style is great, only issue is that the combat does feel a bit cluttered when juggling your team, actions, and timing-based commands. It doesn't flow as well as Final Fantasy's ATB system. Still, the game is more of an adventure game than anything else and I like it so far. For $3, I can't complain.

Considering they rotate the Pros you can use every so often, buying a Pro is only necessary if you want to be able to use a certain Pro at all times.

Which seems like something I'd want to do honestly.

I also got the 2 episodes from Precipipe of Darkness, like last month, I tried out the demo for the first game and heck... It was so addicting that I just had to get the two episode pack. The story is really funny and I like how the main char is given somewhat of a personality throughout the dialog choices (well, like in the old days rpgs). The sad thing is that the games are really short. And the third episode won't follow the story for the first two games it seems. =(

Pros also go on super cheap when they're currently in the free rotation (I think LoL and most MOBA do that actually).

Game is fun as hell. I bought Captain Spark and he's all I use. Everyone thinks he sucks so I never have to worry about him being chosen, and then I top the charts on my team every game with the supposed worst character, bahaha. He's also definitely the funniest. I love his dialogues.

and just because you mentioned it i'm gonna try Blacklight R...dunno why. Feel like playing an FPS. Every single other F2P FPS sucks ass though, but I guess we shall see how this one is.
EDIT: Oh god Perfect World...well...at least it isn't in beta.

I really liked On The Rain Slicked Precipice of Darkness 1, but I just haven't gotten around to picking up the sequel. The new game apparently just came out, but they've radically changed the style and gameplay; it'll be interesting to see how it holds up.

Have you tried Tribes: Ascend? I haven't been able to play it myself, but I've heard great things about it. Plus, you know, shazbot.

Nah already played it and hated it.
and I didn't exactly go into it thinking it'd suck, I paid for a package thing that gave me early beta access...huge waste of money, ergh.
I'm telling you dude, DC Universe!
I didn't feel like downloading it, it's really large.

Spark is OP
>:[

Good thing that Uber nerfed his blind to 40 seconds.
Spark deserved that nerf.
He really did.

Anyway, I main Veteran on SMNC
Veteran is awesome if you know when and where to klaw

Every single time I see someone mention Spark, it's how bad he is. Half the time when I pick him the other team starts taunting my team about how we're screwed because I wasted a character slot.

Veteran is so bad when fighting a commando, lol.
I found out that jumping = can't grab. But I can jump and attack quuuite easily...sooo.
All he can do is flail around aimlessly and die like an idiot, haha. It's great. Veterans fucking HATE me.
