I am a terrible person

So I'm revising someone's essay and they rather obviously have English as a second language. The essay is just really bad and some key quotes are making me laugh.

For some context: Kenji Yoshino wrote a book called "Covering" about how the greatest threat to civil rights is the fact that people "cover" their true selves by not flaunting their race, gender, sexuality, etc. The book mostly focuses on gay rights though as he's gay himself and is a lawyer for gay rights cases.
1. "Looking and feeling the straight people all around Yoshino on Whitney Avenue, he is feeling small-souled and rejects Paul hands."
2. "But Paul was never throated or hindered by society, He was a free spirit who never paid attention to anything that could stop his gayness and didn't let the contrary instinct build in him, He was a strong gay."
3. "When his mother said we will never be able to go back to Japan, Yoshino knew she was talking about a metaphorical death, a social death, but a death."
4. "This aggravated the contrary instinct in Yoshino who already has a mountain of contrary instinct in him."
5. "By self-loathing, he is bringing himself down and the use of Oedipal rant makes us feel that he did something totally not acceptable."
6. "He feels the need for protection since as a gay he is a weak person in the society."
7. "They want him to teach constitutional law, instead of laws of gays."
8. "I feel Paul's parents were not against him or he might have somebody who nourishes his gayness."
9. "He has no contrary instinct in him and he don't need covering."
10. "Yoshino in the other hand is a first generation Japanese man who may not have anybody to nourish his gayness."
11. "When I look at kids in general, their eyes, their smile I can say quickly who is well supported and nourished."
Wait...doing stuff like this makes you a terrible person? I must be the god damn devil then.
Well the person who I'm editing for is nice and all but she clearly has English as a second language (just calling it ESL from now on) and some of the stuff in here is just so badly worded that it even feels offensive.

Like if these words were spoken by like Rick Santorum it'd sound really homophobic. Yet again anything Santorum says sounds homophobic.

Yoshi needs his gayness nourished before he rejects Pauls hands again after looking at kids.
