the 3ds scene is rotten.

i had been taking a break from gbatemp for a long time now. i've came back and i'm really disappointed. all you want is piracy. you even (sometimes) harass haxlords just to get l33th4x for your 3ds. ctrepo(cydia3ds),salt(karl3ds) and many other projects were not released for a reason. it's also partially caused by the "morality protectors" though. take a look at the psp scene. literally no problems. there is hb and piracy hax. i personally hate piracy, never really loved it. i had some cool things coming up, but screw them. i'm not working on stuff for such a scene. hope the 4ds(or something) has a better scene.

>take a look at the psp scene

i don't see how they're comparable at all. PSP is frigging ancient and has virtually no development. while 3DS is ongoing and having a bit of a boom. more people posting is more messyness. that's just logical.

i wouldn't call the stuff on the 3ds scene a "boom". i meant the pep scene as when it was a flagship. the 3ds has a boom when hax come out so you can piracy.

that was what 7-8 years ago? again it's comparing apples and pears. and maybe you're remembering it better than it actually was.

i guess. yet still, the 3ds scene is complete bullshit, only smealum(and others) is(are) making actual progress for ONLY homebrew.

The days have gone by where homebrew was useful for anything other than piracy. Now we have smartphones, tablets and Android based handhelds that are more powerful than any conventional handheld console. Homebrew these days is reduced to a small amount of actual new stuff worth playing, as well as ports of open-source games that already exist on every other platform, and emulators that are worse than their Android/iOS counterparts.

Homebrew used to be a lot bigger before smartphones exploded. Now virtually anyone can develop for a device that most people carry around in their pockets every day. Homebrew just isn't as attractive for developers anymore, so there is a lot less new homebrew being made, and the overall quality of the homebrew is lower.
It isn't the fault of the pirates, really. People just don't care about homebrew/emulators much when they have a smartphone that can do all of that.

@The Real Jdbye good point. but yet still, there is not a small amount. there is almost nobody making home-brew because the 3ds OWNERS prefer piracy from hb.

The same thing applies to 3DS owners. Most people have a smartphone, which have a lot of indie homebrew-like games, and most of them are either free or very cheap. People would rather play those kind of games on their phone which is always at arms reach, and play retail-length games on their 3DS when they have more time to invest. It's just the natural evolution of things. At least that's the way I see it.

EEEEW Piracy , eeeew.

No seriously even though i agree on the title but the homebrew scene and the "piracy" (should i say) scene are complete different things imo , even though people sometimes get confused cough HANS cough.

If people "prefer" piracy , it's their choice i don't see how it can prevent you from wanting to make homebrews for the system.

Hating on piracy won't solute nothing, the 3DS scene developed the way it is because Smartphones have wider territory for "homebrew" that you mention it, and that it does better than what a normal handheld could ever accomplish, but hey, i'm a pirate, and i couldn't care less about what people say about it, I don't have moral fag to protect me or something, I just hack my consoles and i'm happy for it :yay3ds:

I don't see the point of this post. If you bring a nice homebrew project I can assure you people will get excited. Emulators, rom hacking, FW spoofing, VC injection, ports of old games (like Doom, Quake, Duke Nuken and Cave Story), all things that people get excited. I personally would lose my mind if I saw a 3D video player. Now what else do you want? That people ask for a homebrew alarm clock? Dude, it's 2015, there are smartphones. Sorry, but it just sounds like anti-piracy whining to me.

3DS scene is rotten because people want piracy?

More like it's rotten because developers don't want it. It's like an anti-piracy cult, a true cancer.

It's not about piracy. Pirates use homebrew to, because is useful, I have a pirated softmodded wii with a lot of more features than the conventional wii menu. Homebrew and piracy work togetter. One of the very first consoles that being hacked is the PSX vía hardmod, and piracy was one of the most strong reasons to hack the PSX, but I know that others chipmodder his PSX to play backups of his PSX original discs that got crashed.

The scene is shit because of people keeping stuff for themselves, because of people that want everything spoonfed, because of people that can't grasp the fact that vuln threads aren't for building up hype but instead to find helpers and because of people that instead of release source code to get improvements or help won't do.
In short, the scene is filled with attention whores and inmature turds

Why don't you start a blog to whine in sissy. Oh wait.

You said it yourself. Psp scene was driving by piracy and was one of the best homebrew scenes. Trust me, we don't moral persecution and whining in the scene. Take care.

I'm finding it ironic that people are giving the reason for the scene's state due to smartphones (Which isn't completely wrong), yet only a few months earlier we had a small dispute break out because someone had the audacity to say smartphones are better than what the 3DS has to offer. (Which, again, is not completely wrong.)

At any rate, the 3DS homebrew scene for better or for worse, is as it is. I'm just content with the homebrew scene growing, personally.

People don't seem to realize that the scene is built on what people contrubute, not necessarily on what people want. What makes this scene suck compared to those like the psp or original xbox, is devs who think they have moral authority. That and everyone wanting to be center of attention. It's not so bad now, but in the beginning there were tons of hype threads and development threads with no plans to release. No one wanted anyone to built on their work, using piracy as their reason to not let anyone improve their shit. Btw, the two epic scenes I mentioned were born and grew with piracy as its back bone and primary goal. So again, @AtlanticBit, if you dont like people wanting what they want, pissoff. We don't want your moral faggotry ruining our finally growing scene.
