Game Boy Lights, the future is now.

I was going through my closet and found three of these Game Boy Lights. Wish I had the other colors, but the prices have gone crazy. I remember buying these three for $60.00ea NIB about thirteen years ago. Any other Game Boy Light system collectors out there? Fun stuff.

can i have the battery cover :P

really nice systems I picked up a loose one a few years back for about £20 but it came with no battery cover, and I have never seen a replacement, guess they just aren't popular enough to reproduce them :(

@gamesquest1 aren't they technically the same as Gameboy Pocket? Couldn't that fit?

nope, they take AA batteries instead of AAA, so they have a ridge on the back where the batteries go

EDIT: oooh I now see they have Gameboy light replacement screen guards, mines a lil bit scratched so i might consider that at some point, but still no battery covers around :(

@Jacklack3 its actually quite nice on the eyes in person, I have seen some of the diy kits people use and they sometimes seem too bright to the point where its hard on the eyes or they have very uneven lighting , but I have seen some that seem to be on par if not better than the Gameboy light, but tbf we are comparing 1996 technology vs 2015 or so so its not hard to imagine things might have improved a little bit :P....but I like it :P

this i nice! i wanted one when I heard about but I really never saw im person, just a friend that had told me
I would like to ahve one today but i'm not willing to give a fortune for one :v Id'd rather mod an gbc xD

Vipera: I did remove the batteries, one box has a bad top cover because of a leakage before I got the unit. The Gameboy is ok though. After seeing this I sold off my entire sealed Pocket, Color, and GBA system Collection. I had alot and even doubles and triples of certain units. People pay three to four times if that seal is in place. I feel sorry for them because they are buying a ticking timebomb. Not a good investment, even seeing these systems with included AAs in those VGA grade boxes makes me cringe, because its only a matter of time when the box will meltdown, even in that airtight box.

: I paid $60 each. Back then it was a fair price, used ones were selling in the $30s.

Btw, the GameBoy Light uses an electroluminescent panel to provide the lighting, its nice and even with no hot spots from LEDS washing out certain areas. Though it does create a buzz/hum when listening with headphones.

It was a Japanese exclusive system. The release was between the Pocket and Colors. They introduce a slightly larger system and increased the batteries to two AAs instead of the AAA the pockets used. The switch has three positions: Off;On;On w/backlight. About 50-60K were made in total.

The system also used the a-b buttons from the color models.
