How i got myself into 'anime'

I used to be one of those guys which used to post 'Anime is shit' and 'Anime is for furry faggots' type of comments.
But after some time I though... 'Is anime really that bad? I never tried it, so I'm not 100% allowed to hate it.'

Summer, 2016.
After browsing endless Steam Community posts about how anime is shit, I decided to try and see if it's really that bad like other's say. Also my PC broke in Summer so I was left with my tablet which stopped working after some time.

I created a post in Off-topic. A post which would suggest me anime because I want to 'give it a shot'. My Steam Profile was something like this but it had Kashima there instead of Hifumi.
Obviously, some posts were useless shitposts like 'Cory in the house', 'boku no pico' etc. other recommended me Ecchi and finally some normal people which gave me real recommendation.

One of these recommendations were: Cowboy bepop, Nichijou, K-on! etc. etc.
If you haven't guessed by now, I went with Nichijou since he said it's a great anime for 'beginners' to anime.
Alright, i researched if he didn't recommend me hentai. Nope.
'Where do I watch it?' - me trying to find where to watch it. That's where I spammed my friend on Steam. He recommended me a streaming site.
Cool beans, let's get right into it. First episode, second, third and... last episode! I never laughed so hard in my life and kudos to him for recommending me this masterpiece.
Nichijou was my first anime and I don't regret watching it. It stayed in my memory and I still remember it's ending.

Then I went with Angel Beats! Well... 'Comedy' tag doesn't apply here. It's depressing as hell but It's my second favorite anime. Why? It played strong role on my feels. I never cried while watching your typical 'The Walking Dead' or random romance/drama films. Yes, I cried waterfall at the end and I'm not scared to admit it.

Third one: Ecchi about a zombie boy which can change into magical fairy [Which made me cringe] (Kore wa zombie desu ka?)
Fourth one was K-on! Another anime I abolutely love!

And... that's basically how I got into anime. I used to hate it but now I absolutely love to watch it when I'm sad.
Question to you: What was your first anime you watched? Mine personally was Pokemon but I don't count it.
Answer it in comment section down below!

And there's one anime I can barely remember which I've never found again.

Well, I watched alot of Pokemon, Bakugan and Beyblade when I was a kid.

Also I hate it when you can't find anime. I myself can't find one I loved as a kid :<

Cowboy Bebop is the shit. I started with dbz when I was a kid. Then got into deathnote, samurai champloo, trigun, etc. Now anime is kinda hit and miss for me. If it's too far out there or over sexualized I can't get into it.

First Anime... Not sure, I am old and from Argentina, so anime was frequent on TV when I was a child.
It might have been... Hmmm.... Time Bokan, or perhaps Mazinger Z, or some shit like that...

First one I was into, probably Robotech/Macross.

My first anime ever was Fairy Tail. Good starter, but got kinda "bad" midway into the 2014 edition and I stopped watching. Great show. My second was SAO. The first season was absolutely AMAZING. The plot and characters were great. I wish they sticked to the story in season 1 because...lets be honest. Season 2 and 3 were....interesting.

@Xanthe lolno.

"The first season was absolutely AMAZING. The plot and characters were great"

As much as I like SAO, it was never amazing, and season 3 hasn't even aired. The show has a huge number of flaws, as much as I like a number of things about it. The characters, interesting? I don't see how that is. That's literally "the lone OP guy with a girl and his rejected women club".

There's so many vastly different anime out there these days that the only actual similarity is the language itself. Overall, those top two are definitely good picks. https://myanimelist.net/animelist/TobiasAmaranth I started with Inuyasha and dot//HACK, but these days I investigate pretty much every anime series that airs, and watch a large chunk of them. (This season's overall really good, btw.)

Wo, finally somebody who watched K-on!

@gnmmarechal
I agree with you. I gave S01 a solid 2/10 and S02 1/10 because it's boring, awful and no actual character development.

Glad to see another grow out of this edgy phase. If you like Nichijou you should check out Seitokai Yakuindomo if you haven't already. It has a similar pace but with dirtier humor.

Unless there's some really obscure Japanimation of the 70's I've forgotten seeing, the first I saw was the Battle of the Planets translation of Gatchaman. I didn't know it was any different from any other cartoon of the era, though. I even had a few BOTP comics.

The first shows where I really got what was going on and they were dubbed/toned down Japanese shows would be a lot later with Voltron and Robotech, which both showed up at about the same time (and on the same local channel WXON 20).

There might have been a few others I might have had on various channels in the 80's but they didn't really stick out like those. There wasn't really a good way to get into that stuff back then, even in the 90's it was mostly series released on expensive VHS sets spread over a lot of tapes and even back then there was the sub (yuck) vs dub nonsense going on, so it was all a pain so I never bothered to get into anything.

Though I did rent the Final Fantasy Legend of the Crystals on VHS from a local video store. Don't remember much of anything about it (had to google to even find the subtitle) other than it did't really match any of the games I'd played (apparently it was loosely connected to the then jap only FF5). That was pretty much the end of my dabbling with the genre, for no particular reason other than lack of easy, cheap availability at the time.

Sorry for wall of text formatting, I edited something and it wiped out all the line breaks, although they still seem to be preserved in the edit window???

First anime when I was a kid was the usual Yuyu Hakousho, DBZ, Pokemon, what else?
then later on when I discovered more on the internet, that's when I watched a lot of shit.
I almost cried on Angel Beats as well, the scene where tenshi confesses to the main guy.
