Operating System BS

You can't have a neutral discussion about Windows here because some random weirdo will come and scream 'INSTALL WONUX YOU FAILURE' at you. On other hand, if someone mentions Linux then there will be that one guy which will start Mac OSX > everything rant or even worse Windows > Linux rant. [I used Linux to describe every damn Distro which is out there] And yes, I also saw the horrible attacks of Windows and Mac OSX skids.

Every OS is okay, ffs. No need to shit on other user for using OS of their own liking. If there is a post about malware outbreak and making useless panic storm of 'INSTALL LINUX BECAUSE IT'S SAFE!' no, it's not. Most servers run Linux and they get cracked in just matter of seconds. You can still get infected on Linux, nothing is 100% safe and secure. Look at Android, you can get easily infected just by downloading and executing simple apk file. Get Wannacrypt and run it under Wine. Bam, your shit is encrypted

'But felek, you need wine to run it so linux is still safe!' *facepalm* Uh, this doesn't prove anything?

Second: 'x OS is superior than x' This might be true because it might have more features than x one but you can easily code those features for x system if you feel like doing so. Oh, you mean those fancy graphical effects which hogs RAM and GPU resources? Well, if your pc is strong enough then it's okay i guess?

'Opensource' bullshit. Your software is as open as my software. [Aka, closed af] Source code might be on Github but some features including kernel are always, believe me, always closed source. This is an expection for some but this opensource shit is pissing everyone off. 'Open-source' is a marketing scam to bait users.

As before you peasants strike up my ass: I used many Linux Distros and overally, operating systems. Every OS had it's flaws and good points. I never stumbled upon a 100% perfected and safe Linux Distro or operating system in my whole, damn life.
Now, let's see how much people will flame me for whatever i wrote here.
Question: Your views on this 'x os > x os' crap?
And as always, see you in a next blog post.

@Slattz - Nobody is attacking anyone for their opinion. It's attacking someone's reasoning. Why? Because someone's reasoning can be factually wrong (e.g.: Linux not being completely Open Source). The OP can wear "I <3 Windows" shirts and go to conventions where they burn Linux computers in front of a painting of Stallman for all I care. What gets me angry however is when they claim that Windows is better because of incorrect facts such as 'linux isn't free (as in freedom) and open source'.

If you like Windows better because, for example, the way it's designed and looks, I will say that I find it an unorganized mess and argument why I think that. I wil never say that you shouldn't be liking it, maybe you do like unorganized messes. I'm not there to argue that.

-Windows: better because everyone uses it, drivers, gamez, more software
-Linux, better features, python rulez, programmer things, 100% total control
-macOS: Pretty, optimized even on old Macs, artistic creation

No OS is bad, none is the best, that's all about subjectivity. Some people hate Apple for various reasons, others love macOS. Some hate Windows 10, others love it. That's a matter of opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@BARNWEY
Mhm, WannaCrypt runs under Wine and actually works. You have some proof on YouTube and you can do it by yourself.
Also, ffs Ethan you derailed this into super shitshow.

Actually:
  • Windows: better because I have the free will to use it.
  • macOS: better because I have the free will to use it.
  • Linux: better because I have the free will to use it.
  • Warmonging false-information propagating idiots: attention whores who can't stop attention whoring.

But meh, this blog post pretty much shows how people can't talk about some topics on GBATemp without "accidentally" flaming anyone.

@Felek666 That's only if you manually run WannaCry's executable, Wine couldn't be affected by WannaCry's spreading routine.

(Also, from a purely technical/engineering point of view, it's actually good that Wine can run that shit and have it work because it shows that Wine is getting better at doing its job of translating Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly.)

@hobbledehoy I meant that you can use PlayOnLinux to create virtual drives for different programs and restrict them to that drive. Making Windows malware completely useless on a Linux computer...
For example: You can make a separate drive for Microsoft Office, and it would only have access to whatever is on that virtual drive...

@Felek666 That's cool that it works, but I'm pretty sure using PlayOnLinux to create a virtual drive, and restricting WannaCry to that drive would make it useless. PlayOnLinux also restricts access to the Home folder by default.
P.S. I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, just putting some info out there for people who want to run Windows programs on Linux safely...
