Japanese is a mess.

No, I'm not talking about Japs, that is racist, I'm talking about their language. I mean didn't they learn how to use space in sentence? Did the paper too expensive or did their word too big to afford that? Or they just too lazy to do it? Then again, they lazy enough to drop object in the sentence so I wouldn't too suprise. But seriously, how can you tell which one is a single word and which one is two separate word? I read that each Kanji is a word but then I read one word can be make by two or more Kanji and word can be make by solely Hiragana or worse, it make by mix both Kanji and Hiragana together. So in order to learn Japanese, not only I need to learn 2000 characters but also combination of those 2000 together? How can you even do that? I wasn't even be able to learn 2000 English words, and I had using it everydays for 5 years now, it would be easier to learn how to decode Enigma machine than this.

To think my country used to use this kind of character for century.

Thank Jesus those French priest help us change it to Alphabet.

Maybe you're putting too much emphasis on it? Not everyone who speaks English knows every single word and to add to that, there are many words speakers of English have trouble with, specifically, words from America, to the U.K. to Australia, and even Canada. Best advice is to just do what you can and retain what you've learned. Honestly, if you aren't going to use it (Japanese language), don't bother learning it; if you really do intend to use it, learn how Kanji is written and how it's spoken.

How long have you been learning it?
I'm learning Japanese myself and I used to think exactly the same thing regarding the spacing and where the hell the words start and end. As I've gotten better at it I can make it out with little difficulty, even when I don't know what the word means. it's something that will eventually settle in as you progress. Like H1B1Esquire said, don't put too much thought into it. Japanese is a language that I find fun but at the same time daunting to learn specially with Kanji, and in my case, relative clauses... I can't make a sentence using that to save my life.

The different sets of characters somewhat act as a separator. The real problem is that not only kanji can be read differently depending on their meaning, but hiragana characters as well when they're used as particles!
If you have trouble learning the Japanese writing system, start with rōmaji. When you've learned enough, you should be able to learn how to read hiragana, katakana and kanji more easily.

kanji=汉字=an ideogram with independent meaning;
when there are 2 or more 汉字 the meaning could be different depending on which contest u find them and usually the last 汉字 is subjective and the others usually are adjective(s)

@leon315 The Japanese characters for kanji are 漢字. 汉字 is in Simplified Chinese, AFAIK.

it's true, but if u can read it, u know how they work

p.s. perharps the traditional one are exactly same

I can read it because I've read about Simplified Chinese and I remember those characters.

@leon315
笨蛋 is not Japanese so not sure what you are trying to prove :)

And @anhminh you will soon notice that you do not need spaces between words. It actually gets much easier to read than standard spaced text, when you become ''advanced'', in my opinion.

@BlueFox gui Not really. Unless you are looking at youtube videos which are made to be clickbait and focus on irrevelantly small number of subjects. (I remember a Youtuber trying to prove that not even Japanese can read some obscure kanji which is really not used anymore by asking some random yankees (basically street punks). Those guys couldnt count to 100 let alone know anything grammar related.

@leon315 Nope. I only got a toilet paper doctoral degree from corpus linguistics and linguistic theory in Japanese language so they didn't teach us that.
