Why are Americans so freaking sensitive

*Disclaimer* if you get offended by anything I say, that is not my attention however, you'll be proving my point.

I've been thinking lately (a dangerous pastime I know) but I've noticed that Americans are extremely sensitive. What ever happened to "suck it up" or "get over yourself"? For example I have said that I do not agree with homosexuality but I still am friends with and love homosexual people despite me not agreeing with this lifestyle, of course I was still called homophobic and got a lot of hate by some pansies who couldn't respect other people's thoughts. Another example is the is viewpoints on celebrities and the like. I've noticed people being unnecessarily bashed for not liking a generally liked person or vice versa. The most extreme example is something I saw today. There was a video of a photographer being observed by a young elk. It showed mildly hostile behavior as it would bend it's head down and buck the man who was sitting on the ground. He stayed down so he wouldn't upset the elk and he got away unharmed. The elk was later put down for "repeated aggressive behavior". At least 80% of the comments said that the man had performed animal abuse because the elk was put down even though he did absolutely nothing to harm it. People went as far as to say that the man should have been put down. This begs the question. What causes us Americans to be so easily offended and hate others just because they differ in opinion? What do you guys think?

@SG854 Still, I don't know if the mentality of domination is right, but then I would prefer a largely disjointed society if it gets rid of the notion of Domination/ Submission. (For me, it's more acceptable to kill than dominate.)

@TotalInsanity4 Acceptance and Tolerance are 2 entirely different things. You can not accept something, and yet tolerate it at the same time.

@StarGazerTom Logically Tolerance is a premise for acceptance, but on the other hand is Tolerance not acceptance of other existence?

@Felek666 I think he's trying to say by tolerating someone you accept they exist and are willing to live beside them as a fellow human being.

I neither rally for nor against lgbt stuff. So would I be considered a homophobe for not directly being supportive of these relationships? Just a question for thought that rolls on with the conversation

My brother becomes uber salty if you point out the fact that he draws tongues through lips
its actually kind of funny tbh

@Eightcoins The premise of modern scoiety is that no one group should be all powerful, and maybe power should truly be diverted to every individual. Sadly we have no solution to achieve that, and it might even erase our individuality.

@yil Power is going to exist no matter what. Its a pipe dream to completely eliminate it.

@TheDarkGreninja Seriously is it really that hard to tolerate people. Im too lazy to be doing this non accepting , its too much work. I just go do my thang and thats it.

Its amazing to me that this is even a conversation now in 2017.

@SG854 Achieving absolute even power is contradictary in itself. By changing the world, I have to dominate everyone which defeat my point.

@DeoNaught You know these threads are always the same. People argue over opinions. People complain how others don't accept their opinions. Then you have someone fighting for their right to say their opinions. Then you have someone come up with a theory about opinions.

Sometimes on other topics people spend more time arguing about their right to express their opinions then actually expressing their opinions. They spend more time on why opinions should be expressed rather than giving their opinions on the topic at hand (if it's not a freedom of speech type topic).

I usually don't take these threads seriously.

@the_randomizer Why not piss them off instead. If you survive a later encounter it will be them in the wrong. Of course if you are strong enough you can wreck their confidence and you being in self defense does not need to recieve legal punishment.

@Lilith Valentine Well I guess that's how things are where you live. I don't think you can generalize that to all of America. You can rarely every generalize anything in this country given how diverse we are in opinions, thinking, etc. And I like to think this community is a little more sane than the everyday :')

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
