Autism is a real disorder!

jt_1258 tbh, I'm not helping by not stoping people, my school says I have aspergers, well, I don't believe them but still, I've never really gone out of my way to stop folks, sorry mate

That reminds me of my school...
The staff surely managed to spread misinformation about myself.
Right in the self esteem.

I met someone recently with Asperger's, the guy's a genius. He's only slightly socially awkward, but he can certainly interact with society as much as is necessary in every day life. At least in the case of Asperger's, it just refers to social behavior and not a person's general competency in anything (the guy I mentioned is, again, really smart, and a lot more competent in most things than non-Asperger's people).

Also, people need to realize that autism is an umbrella term for a million different things, and they're all pretty different from each other. When you say "autistic", the word pretty much means nothing because every different thing on the spectrum is really different from everything else. Because of that, it really doesn't make sense to use autistic as an insult (and that's just from a logical, not moral, point of view).

I really know and understand how this would sound bad for someone that actually suffer with the effects of something like that... I have some problems alike, but ...
I think what I could recommend is: try to don't take this serious, don't take this personal.
Know why? They aren't directing it to you, I mean when it really not told for you lol when it this they probably don't know about you or are simply idiots and you could get mad at, or just ignore, they don't deserve your attention.
The thing is, it's just an stupid "therm", a "slang", someway using the wrong word to mean something and this happens in a lot of languages(if not all? lol), this is cultural, this is simple, and not all to bad .. like nowadays the word " phobia" is associated to " hate to something", while phobia actually means "fear of something" , right?
so chill out and don't get mad at these small stuff, I know this hurt, but they are autism people being beaten for being autism and this must stop .. an random idiot calling his colleague a retarded is not relevant at some real problem " retarded" people suffer :/

see, like one time , while playing RPG whit some friends, we have the habit to give a HA! GAAAAY!" to someone who say something that sound strange, it's our meme haha
The thing is, one of our friends that play is actually gay and what he do about this? Just play along, he know it's not for bad and if was we would not care at all
Other time a new friend wanted to watch our game so he was there .... and come the time I did this like Awards .. them I remembered he was gay too :v I looked and noticed he don't liked it, after hat I went to apologize, later talking to him he told me that know it's nor for bad, even more coming from me xD

I only heard it as fear... everywhere I looked (in Portuguese btw) only told it as fear/similar to " I don't want to be close", not " I want to punch it" :x just saw that " Disgust" can mean both aversion and hate , but where I looked at (in portuguese) don't liked the hate part to phobia õ3o even this being fairy used nowadays
(languages are something awesome! making misunderstanding since ever XD)
anyway maybe I gave a bad example but still common for other words I can't remember atm :v
Btw what you think about the rest I said? I would like to know if you agree or why not...

lol it remainds me, my old brother calls me retarded and autistic because i don't have a girlfriend
nothing makes sense anymore

Do they also call a perfectly fit person that plays soccer like shit "manco" in Brazil? (I mean using crippled/lame as an insult)

The list would go on, you could fill an Encyclopedia of conditions used as insults in an asshole-ish way, I don't see "autism" being special.
