I got bored and tried to modify the new 3DS Minecraft.

Almost all of the assets to the game are in this weird .3dst format, and all the json files have a .bjson (Binary JSON?) counterpart.
There seems to be almost nothing known about these two formats, so I couldn't really get anywhere.
Although, the credits were still in a regular text file. :D

I'll take what I can get. Sadly, I know little when it comes to game modification, so there could be something I'm just missing.
Strangely, I found files for XboxLive and VR stuff. I assume they're leftover/partially finished data for something like XBL authentication in the future.
I tried loading the 3dst files in Ohana, which didn't yield anything, and I couldn't find anything to properly read the bjson files. Notepad gave me mostly garbage, with some actual data, while notepad++ only gave me garbage, and nothing else I tried would even load it.

I'm new to this whole blog thing, so hopefully this post isn't a total mess. :S
Thanks for reading through this, and I hope you all have a good night.
EDIT: I went back and looked at some of the files again, and found stuff for realms and store json files. I assume they're just leftovers from the port, since I can't see the 3DS using either of these features.
I haven't kept up with the game's updates, but I also found something called redstone_screen.json. I don't know what it does.
All references to VR stuff usually contains 'holo' in it, which, I assume is reference to Microsoft's HoloLens.
Audio files are in FSB format, and might be able to be replaced. I'm really tired now and don't really want to try though.

It's kind of a miracle they were able to even get it playing on the N3DS from what I heard. I'm not really into the game anymore, so I doubt I'm gonna keep doing this for too much longer.
Similarly, I think having Minecraft on the O3DS would be nice, and let way more people enjoy it aswell. (Although, the Switch version is prolly better of all the handheld versions.)

@Mistah Spoon I was really hoping we'd be able to mod the game more. Sadly just about everything was in those weird file formats they used. :/

@MagicalSheep the game runs horribly on o3DS. Try turning off Clock+L2 while it's running, it plays horribly!

@SirNapkin1334 It plays pretty similarly to how I had to play it back in 2012. I'm still surprised it runs properly on the n3DS at all.
My main complaint about it is how close the fog is, but that's kind of a necessity with what little power the 3ds has.

G
You can use ImageMagick to convert those weird formats

The newest update have a new, inferior font for whatever reason.
I'd like to see someone restore the old font, I tried but I don't know my way around Minecraft files.

@Sasori Wish I found this a long while ago, I have to redump the cxi now. Thanks for telling me about it.
@SirNapkin1334 As would I. Makes more sense to actually see the chunks, but again, hardware limitations would make that not fun to play. Though I never really played the 3DS version since my interest in the game is practically gone.
@CeeDee once my cxi dumps again I'll look and see. I dont think I ever updated Minecraft on my 3DS.

Wow that new font is just awful. I dont see why it got replaced, the old font was just fine. ._.
I cant seem to make any changes anymore, at least with update 1.2. I made a duplicate folder of all the stuff from before, and renamed the folder to 0004000e001b8700, which seems to be the new tid? so it exists alongside the old one, but nothing gets changed still.
@CeeDee for the font, I think you could just copy everything from /images/font and/or everything from /loc and it *should* put the font back. (I dont think the stuff in /loc is needed, but from what I remember Minecraft's font data is stored in localization stuff, atleast that's what I remember from PC minecraft.)

@Magical Sheep Maybe try a Luma 3DS layeredfs patch with the old files above the new ones?

@SirNapkin1334 that's because they did a port, AGAIN!

Like, did nintendo NOT learn from dumb Mario Maker 3DS? The odd part is that they ported it from their rival console. Porting a Xbone 1 game to a 3DS just doesn't work. I hate it with a passion, and hope to find a clone that works on O3DS

@CeeDee That's something I could do, but I'm not in the best position to take off the back pannel of my 3ds to transfer files now.
Well, I went and deleted the second one since that would just be patching the update and not the game, but it's still strange it doesn't work. I'm doing all this through Luma's layeredfs, which is working just fine for anything else except Minecraft. :/ I suppose I could just use something else like OnionFS, but I'm too lazy to work with anything else really.

@maorninja don't blame this on Nintendo, they didn't do it
It's a port of an old Pocket Edition, which isn't quite the same as the recent "Minecraft"
@Magical Sheep LayeredFS worked fine for me when I tried it IIRC

@CeeDee Mine will work fine as well, as long as the 1.2 update isn't there. Maybe there's just something wrong with my setup. /shrug Actually, that wouldn't surprise me because I was having a bunch of random crashes while loading 3dsx apps the other day.
@WAUthethird It seems like PNG, but it errors when I try to open .3dst files with it. (To be fair I didn't really look into it much, but I think someone is/was working on something to view/edit them.)
