The Mac OS X Blues

I didn't know whether to make a blog post about Mac OS or the new XP system, but let's keep our heads up and talk about something not GBATemp.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I've been trying to install Mac OS X on my computer for a long while. I find Mac OS X really interesting and nice and as I have an iPhone, it might even make my iPhone experience better!

Oh but wait, I'm VinLark. Nothing ever works.

Let's call the first time I installed Mac OS X on my PC Act 1. I had a AMD-A4 processor and was trying to install Mac OS X . Mac OS X installed fine, no hiccups or anything. It boots up fine, takes a heel of a time to initialize and do all the hackintoshy stuff because I'm running it on a HDD which Mac OS X wasn't designed for in 2017.

I have a fairly standard wifi card, it's an RT (something like that I don't have it anymore) series card and is supported by even the most underground Linux distro, and hearing about all the community efforts around Hackintosh and how there are kekts for everything, I go in thinking I'll just have to download a new kekt.

I find a kekt for literally every other RT card but mine. Ok, this is alright. Let's just install it.

And it WORKS!

The end---

Sike. No it doesn't.

It allows me to see my WiFi networks, but NO connecting. Connecting was just not fucking possible. At all. I could click until the sun went up but that fucker would not let me connect.

So I give up. Done. Mac OS X without networking is like Windows without .exe functionality.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's call this Act 2. Virtual Hardware.

Circa 2018, I have not tried so many times to get Mac OS X running in virtualbox. It just doesn't do it. Why? Because of my AMD cpu.

I have even tried specific kernels for AMD chips, but alas, nothing. Ryzen killed them off.

Do you have Mac OS X? Do you have a hackintosh? Like comment and subscribe to this blog if you want free Fortnite vbucks GBATemp XP

Mac OS X isn't terrible at all, but if you want full control and tinkering ability (which it sounds like since you want to make a hackintosh) you should install Ubuntu or Fedora. Don't install Gentoo or Arch unless you want your hardware to stop working every week due to changes in the kernel.

I'm posting this comment from a hackbook of mine – a ThinkPad T440p with an i7-4910MQ running High Sierra. :P
WiFi was annoying to get up and running (I had to get a SOIC8 clip and a programmer to remove the whitelist from my BIOS), but everything works great now.

As far as I'm aware, hackintoshing computers with AMD processors just isn't worth it most of the time. However, I suppose it might be worth the effort these days with Ryzen...

Also, if I am remembering correctly, virtualized macOS doesn't support graphical acceleration.

@Friendsxix True, unless you have a virtual machine that can passthrough a physical GPU. I currently have a Hackintosh VM on Linux that uses the Nvidia GTX 1060 for acceleration. It feels like a real machine!

I used to use OS X, in fact I do have a Macbook. Yes, the networking capabilities are very convenient, but I decided bootcamped Windows to it because of more programs, features, customization, etc. Although the one thing I will always miss about OS X is how sleek and simple its design is.

Man, I had the exact same problem as you. Literally every device I tried to install macOS on doesn't support the wifi drivers. I had to buy a separate USB WI-FI card.

@Zhongtiao1 Let me elaborate why I want a hackintosh. Mac OS X seems like the most locked down OS ever, much like iOS. I don't want it for custom kernals. I want it for more development capabilities. Linux and Windows ldid is shite and I can't compile most cydia tweaks with Cygwin or Linux. Mac OS X has xcode so it would be much more streamlined

I believe VirtualBox lets you choose the CPU to simulate, which will affect what CPU capabilities the guest OS is able to use. Maybe you can still get it working on AMD.

No real point since movies are 30fps
