This blog is simple

I don't like storage devices. There I said it. SD card, flash drives, HDD, hate them. :ninja:

Now I know is dumb to say that cause we basically use them all the time. I just dislike having problems with them and so often. Instead of focusing on making them store more stuff and those write/read speeds and charging a lot, least try to make them last longer. I wish they didn't ever die ever. But that's just me. Nothing hurts more than having come so far just to end up caught in a dead end. Played your favorite game and got 100% but then it dies and you got to start all over. Is not easy to deal with. "You should just back up your stuff" says random viewer/member. Yeah but you still managed to get caught in this situation, as I said also the cost of these things. Is not the fact back ups exist, is how you get caught off guard by the idea... randomly happening.

So the feels goes out to all of you who ever had this sensation.

I get a lot of DOA HDDs, or ones that die after a week or two of use. The ones that do survive last me FOREVER, though. Definitely recommend a mix of HDD and SSD for peace of mind.

I've legit never had a single storage media fail on me. I've bought countless hard drives, SD/microSDs, and flash drives and every single one is still fully operational. As long as they're given moderate care, if there's no manufacturing defect, they can last a very very long time.

Nonetheless, always make backups of important files!

"also the cost of these things"
Companies employing seriously dangerous chemicals to produce items with tolerances/measurements in the nanometres and nanoseconds and then selling it to me for money most people could afford to lose.
It is a wonder they work at all.

I've only had one Drive fail on me, It was a 500GB drive, I tried to Put linux on it, but I did it in a stupid way, and now it's dead, it also killed the sata to usb

You're going to hate the future as we embark the silicon age of flash memory and solid state drives. Failure rate is increasing due to more layered NAND. This is the bad side of Moore's Law.

  • SLC (single layered cell, OG old tech, think USB 1.0 to early USB 2.0): ~50k to 100k (read/write)
  • MLC (multi-layered cell, aka double layered): ~5 to 10k (read/write)
  • TLC (triple layered, your 200/256/400/512GB micro SD stuff): ~1k- 5k (read/write)

Don't even get started with the 3D vertical NAND.

I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
