Did anyone else find Breath of the Wild a bit disappointing?

I'm gonna start this off by saying that I've never particularly been a fan of the Zelda games, Wind Waker being the only one I've thoroughly enjoyed and played through. I've still yet to beat BotW but after about 20 hours of playing through it and beating 3/4 of the divine beasts, I really don't think I could give this game more than a 7/10.

Of course I can see why people adore and love this game, but the majority of it seems like a few good bits of story mixed in with insane amounts of busywork and grinding for shrines and better armour/weapons, which isn't always a bad thing if done right. The game in general just didn't jive with me.

Maybe this whole incohesive post is pointless and I'm just getting sick of open world games, but maybe you guys can change my mind.

Mipha is dead, that's the most disappointing part of that game for me. She was an amazing waifu and the best partner for Link.
Also I couldn't play as Linkle, that sucked to.

Urbosa > Mipha tbh

I have no factual evidence for this, but it's just the truth.

Haven't actually read that review yet, but...

On a serious note... Personally, I enjoyed BOTW. I don't have the same dissonance that most fans do, though. I've only played OOT, but I can tell BOTW is vastly different to classic 3D Zelda games. Maybe if I had a crack at reviewing it, perhaps an 8.5/10?

A lot of the hype and reasoning for the 10/10s is easy to understand. A lot of people who played BOTW were Switch owners or kids entirely focused on Nintendo's ecosystem--they probably hadn't experienced a true open world Skyrim-y adventure on that scale. Plus, something like this was pretty huge for Nintendo to pull off. It's an objectively good game imo, but just how good depends on how much genre fatigue you have or don't have.

Yeah honestly I was disappointed. like you I got about 20-30 hours in and defeated 3 of the divine beasts then gave up, It felt so empty and lonely, and nothing I did felt like (I NEED TO KEEP PLAYING THIS GAME) Also I felt like there was not enough water lol.

Honestly I had more fun with Street Fighter II Ultra which is a practically 15 years or so old, still a classic and I'm still good.
Also like you ~I think i'm getting worn out by open world games, I'd much rather play a linear game with an decent narrative and character progression that still has enough to be explored in the linear world, like Tomb Raider for example or uncharted.

Ultra Street Fighter II, The Final Challengers is what it's called. Also is older than 15 years. Last year was street fighter 30 anniversary. It was actually made in 1991, so it's 27 years old now, I know cause I have that game and Street Fighter 30 anniversary collection. :P

Yeah to me it felt like a heavily downgraded zelda game. Less story, less to do ( yeah sure there was an open world concept to it but you still had way more to do in a game like majora's mask), difficulty also felt heavy downgraded compared to older titles, puzzles were downgraded and made easier and the story in general seemed less. In older titles there was so much more lore and i felt that was missing in botw a lot

I don't care for it too much either. I've loved plenty of previous Zelda games but BotW feels too slow, empty, and boring.

okay yeah I was trying to feel younger by saying 15 years :rofl2:
I actually have the 30th Ani Collection on ps4, so I don't honestly know why I said that, cut me some slack on the name, I still struggle to remember all the original SFII Editions and, I have all of them across multiple consoles, spanning right back to the Snes and MegaDrive. (So I should be able to remember really)
I do wish they included Ultra SF II The Final Challengers :P on the 30th Ani collection though.
As I no longer have a switch :/

I loved the game at first with how you have to think about how you tackle enemies and groups of enemies and then how you slowly got better and the weapons improved and enemies got easier. But that was for about the length of the usual rpg game which was 10-15 hours if you dont include side quests. after that every battle was a chore, the weapons keep breaking and the enemies respawn so often it was like there was no point in killing them. I think they went a bit to open ended honestly if they shrunk the map a bit removed or replaced weapon durability with something better like an upgrade system or black smithing to repair them. Then the game would be perfect and id give it a 10/10. except for the ending it was a tad bit of a let down because it was basically just target practice for the final battle and then the pre-final battle was also a bit boring when you go in with guardian gear. i feel like they stretched themselves so far that they got the big picture but missed the little details that wouldve made it a no arguments 10/10 rather then a 9.99999999/10

That was a switch exclusive. :ninja:

I doubt they will considering it's just yet another lazy enhancement, though you can play SF II HD remix on ps3 like I have. :ninja:

I found it very disappointing.
Whoever thought/thinks weapon durability in a Zelda title was a good idea can fuck off.

Yeah that's right it is, Perhaps we might get a Ultra Remaster on PS5 in 8K

Ive played every 3d zelda game and it is by fav my favorite of them. The weapon durability system was actually really smart, it helps to avoid a lot of the problems that other open world games have.

Shh. Zelda/nintendo diehard fans will send you death threats if you rate the game lower than 9.9

I, however, thought it was fantastic. Every time I got into the game, it was so cool to see my progress on that little line, know I'd come so far. Then I could just take out my visor and look around, and be like "I'm gonna go over there. I wonder what's over there?" It made me love the wilderness, and if wilderness ain't your thing, I get the "it feels empty" line I hear a lot. Breath of the Wild just fills me with joy, Iunno.

fuck i gotta play some breath of the wild now

I liked the open world part. But, I wish it had caves, actual dungeons, etc. I liked going through Hyrule castle a lot, but I found the Ganon boss to be a bit too easy.
