Goddamn it, I HATE Oprah.

here's my rambling on about my mom again.

Anyway, she's OBSESSED with Oprah. She watches the show everyday, and it's like her sacred hour; she won't move from the couch and can't leave or be bothered by anyone. Anything she sees in that show she believes and tries to replicate in her own life. It's ridiculous how much that show affects my mom.

Example 1: She saw an episode on "Myspace safety" and proceeded to question me for about an hour on if I had a myspace, if I was telling people my age, etc etc. I hate how shows like that depict ALL teenagers as stupid fucktards that go online and take nude pictures of themselves, give out their address, etc.

Example 2: They had a special on healthy foods, and apparently they said that soy milk is much better for teens than regular milk (which is probably bullshit). Anyway, since then, my mom stopped buying regular milk and has forced me to replace it with soy milk, which is disgusting.

Well today, they apparently had a show on how to save electricity, and some woman was on preaching about how before her electricity bill was over 250 dollars, and then she started unplugging all her appliances when she wasn't using them and she started paying only 50 dollars. (Which again, I believe is bullshit) So now my mom is going on about how we're so financially unstable right now and we need to start "spending less" - as if we weren't doing that enough. She says I can only have my computer on for a limited time every day, and I cannot leave it on overnight any longer. THAT SUCKS. I download all my games, movies, and anime at night, and there is no other time for me to download stuff. I can't download while I'm at school because my mom sits on the couch all day browsing the internet, and if I leave my computer downloading stuff it will "slow down her internet". I can't leave it on at night because it "spends too much electricity". And I can't leave it downloading stuff when I get home from school until night time because that's when I use it for homework and such. :\

Every time some shit like this happens, I always get so angry at my mom for moving here to LA... she thought everything would be so much better, but that was such a stupid idea. We had a great life back in Vegas - we had a 3 bedroom house all to ourselves and the rent was dirt cheap, we didn't have to worry about unemployment, bills, anything... my school was awesome, I had tons of friends... Now we moved and it's like going back 20 steps.

Didn't you walk in here claiming you had one?
:creef:
Didn't you walk in - you know what STFU! ;-; *has no comeback*

Anyway, I told my mom I didn't want to drink soy milk anymore. She asked why and I just told her I liked regular milk better and soy milk was giving me stomach aches. I didn't actually wanna say "Cause I dont wanna grow manboobs and a vagina".

but seriously leaving a computer on overnight isn't gonna hurt the power bill too much. if you turn the screen off, speakers etc and just leave the computer humming away the whole night. Maybe a nice 200-300 Watts per hour, if the computer uses it power-save features. Plus dunno about over there in the states but power being used during the night is generally cheaper (off-peak hours). And you pay what 20-40 Cents per kilowatt? 8 hours overnight that's what at the most, less than $2 a night. You may just not have to download every night if your Mother is that concerned. But overall doing it a couple times a week isn't gonna hurt that much.

1. Your typical quad core uber gaming computer uses power of 3-4 lightbulbs when idle, max. A weaker computer much less.

2. Soy milk is less disgusting to me than regular milk - it comes from a bean and not from the udders of a cow or goat.

3. Oprah needs to eat children.

Yeah, I'm gonna try to convince her to let me leave my computer on... I always turn off the screen and speakers at night, so I really don't think it uses up that much electricity. Problem is, there's only one plug in my room, and everything is connected to it. Computer, external HDD, router, modem, speakers, desk light, iHome, cellphone charger, 360... etc.

i came in here to say horrible things about soy aswell looks like others already have that covered, but i would like to add it does contain a known carcinogen.
BTW I heard Soy milk=small p3n0r!
:O :creep: :mthr:
Isn't War a girly gurl?

That really sucks! Try getting you hands on a "Kill-a-watt" and etsting your rig when it off then slam the results in your mom's face! >:D

Oprah is annoying. I thought only middle aged black people liked her... And lesbian crackers for Ellen.

@eltrut: you mean flipping the breakers?
just tell her that soy makes you gay.
I was reading the articles this guy wrote about soy and then I noticed that he's the chairman of something called Megashift Ministries. He wrote this book. He sounds like a crazy to me.

*EDIT*
He also refers to Japanese and Chinese as "Orientals." I don't know about everyone else here, but where I come from that word is outdated and considered faux pas to use nowadays.

ack, idiots.

best idea would be to install an image rendering program (something that makes fancy images out of 3d models) show her it once, then just tell her every night you need to leave your computer on for homework or some shit. either that or install folding@home and tell her by leaving your computer on you are helping to cure cancer.

as for the soy milk:
A 2008 study found that men who consume an average of half a portion of soy products per day are more likely to have a lower concentration of sperm.

High levels of phytic acid bind to important nutrients like calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc during digestion.

A high consumption of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are found in most types of vegetable oil including soybean oil, may increase the likelihood that postmenopausal women will develop breast cancer

Raw soy flour is known to cause pancreatic cancer in rats.

One study followed over 3000 Japanese men between 1965 and 1999, and that showed a positive correlation between brain atrophy and consumption of tofu. (in other words, soy milk makes you stupid)

Well, if people would post links from sources like this, this or this, I'd be more inclined to believe it. When a crazy Christian goes on a rant, I've conditioned myself to shut down automatically.

well, if you want sources, take that, that, that, that, and that.
well, if you want sources, take that, that, that, that, and that.
Yes, I already found all of those on my own, thank you very much :glare: If you'd bothered to click the links I posted, you'd have seen that I agree with you.

There's nothing idiotic about being skeptical when a Christian leader who writes books about raising the dead opens his mouth, is all I'm getting at.

Anyway, this thread is about Oprah and how her show is affecting War's life for the worse. I feel for you, War. Tell your mom if she wants you to sacrifice downloading at night to save electricity, tell her she needs to sacrifice her Oprah hour and leave the TV off when her show is on ;)

Saving $200 in just one try is bullshit, believe me.

$200 is ALOT, how many appliances does that woman own that she can reach $250 in the first place? And how many appliances does she unplug that she can save $200?

My family's regular bill is $50 alright, with me playing PS2 and PC all the time, tell your mom PC doesn't consume that much of electricity, try to fool her if she's not a tech savvy lol

A. Soy Milk rocks. Love it.
B. How on earth did your mom turn out alright if HER parents didn't have Oprah? (...thats what you need to ask her)
C. Oprah needs to choke on a soy-cow-dick.

I'm fed-the-fuck-up with propaganda that TV stations use as "news." I stopped watching the local news around here when on a Sunday night, i flipped NUTS with the stories they were running. I don't even remember what they were now, but it was absolutely false drivel, one story after the next. Wife® doesn't actually permit me to watch the local news any more, i was that pissed off hehe. Dateline is another one that can suck my testicles. Their bullshit stories about how bad EVERYTHING is, is... well, bullshit.

The problem with the world in general (news programs, news papers, etc) is that EVERYTHING IS BEING DONE FOR MONEY. No one wants to let you know whats going on. They want you to watch their show so you watch the commercials so they get more money. Think about it, "A restaurant you've eaten at may be spreading AIDS. More on this story later." Meaning "more on this story after 6 sets of commercials, and really, they have nothing to do with AIDS, but we figured we could scare you into sticking around for the ads. Thanks for the money, sucker!"

Oooo, dunno how i was going to end this, but i'm getting heated. So, here we go.

I heard the 360 is pretty power hungry even when off. I'd unplug it, then leave the computer on, When your mom notices the bill has only slightly lessened then say, Well maybe Oprah was wrong, We didnt save 200 bucks :P THen go back to leaving everything on
