For People Mad About Nintendo's DMCA Takedowns.....

Don't buy Smash or Pokemon Lets Go!

Just boycott Nintendo. I know a lot of people are not in a extreme fit over them Nintendo taking game projects down but, If we were to just NOT BUY there two biggest games of fall/winter then it would have a somewhat medium maybe even large impact on sales if we spread the word around.

idk what else to put but uhhh don't buy smash bros and pokemon

Comments

but the only people who want smash or pokemon are people who want to...

i doubt pokemon essentials going down would make someone stop buying smash or pokemon

Meh, some people have tried it with other similar companies, but it never solves anything 'cause anyway a crazy amount of people still buys the game.

People are still gonna buy it, and you'll have made no difference while missing out on the games. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For every game you boycott, another purchases it.

Besides, fan projects are only played by.. 10000 people max? versus the 2 million orso that bought it?

It's pointless.

@DinohScene kind of how the music industry gets angry over torrent sites, even though they're losing almost nothing compared to their profits.

Sales don't affect their drive to protect their IPs from piracy.

(Goes without saying I already have all the Nintendo ROMs I could ever need/want backed up locally.)

Nice try with that reverse psychology, Reggie.

While I don't agree with what they're doing regarding emulation sites, this is not the way to go.
At best if you want to boycott something, boycott their online and VC games, and make sure they know why.
Sakurai's team's got nothing to do with it, they deserve the sales they're gonna make. Same with the Pokemon Company, these guys are pretty chill when it comes to unofficial usage of their IP.

Maybe someday we'll get a decent legal offer.

I could be kind of off the mark here, maybe someone with more legal knowledge could step in and clarify this a little better. But, my understanding is that if you are the copyright holder of an intellectual property, you are required to make some type of good faith attempt to legally protect your intellectual property if it is being infringed upon or else you risk losing the copyright or trademark for that property.

In simpler terms, Nintendo issues DMCA takedowns/C&D letters to fan projects, let's use AM2R as an example, because they own the character of Samus as well as probably the setting of planet SR-388 or something of that nature. If Nintendo in this case remained unaware of the project entirely (and I'm not sure who the legal burden of proof would fall on there), there wouldn't be an issue I believe...but if it comes to their legal department's attention that somebody is working on a fangame using a character owned by them (in this case, Samus) and they did NOT issue a DMCA takedown or a letter of Cease & Desist to the developer of the fangame to protect their own intellectual property, they risk losing the copyright or trademark to the character of Samus which would essentially make the intellectual property public domain. Nintendo, who makes money off of games starring or including Samus, obviously does not want to lose their protections of their IP. It's got a lot less to do with Nintendo ruining your good time, or being unimpressed by the developer's work on a fangame, or even really not being supportive of the fact that their fans hold their characters in high esteem and more with the fact that if they don't issue a cease & desist they would legally be in the wrong so to speak as the legal owners of the Samus character by not attempting to protect their character against infringement.

But yeah, all 10 people that you've managed to reach here boycotting Smash or Let's Go Pokemon is not going to change Nintendo Legal's mind on protecting their IP unfortunately, or US copyright law. (Or have a "somewhat medium maybe large impact on sales" either, yikes, do you have any inkling whatsoever how well those games will likely sell?) Although to be fair the Let's Go Pokemon game doesn't look all that spectacular to me so I'll probably unintentionally boycott it, in a sense.

Hopefully my statements above are fairly accurate though, it's been quite some time since I've read up on that type of thing. Again, if somebody with some more thorough knowledge stumbles across this post feel free to correct me if I've made an error.

I never liked any smash games and pokemon go series is (looking like) trash, so i'm not getting either one anyway.

To be honest i'm still waiting for better games, but i'm starting to think i'm holding my breath for too long since it's all ports of games I either already played or i'm not interested in
