/rant/ my bad experience with netflix.... (TL;DR, region locking)

So, while i was in vacation overseas i had tried netflix for the first time..
keep in mind. i barely knew what was netfix, i knew it was a streaming service for movies and shows, which sounded amazing and you know, all talk in the internet about it and the common saying "netflix and chill" stuff
but i tought it had like every known movie that existed, or at least most of them, specially if it come in theaters or in tv.

so, when i browsed netflix, yeah i noticed that it had some very cool but standard shows that are currently in tv...
and they had their own stuff of "netflix originals" which they try to foist (recomended shows was full of netflix original stuff)
and noticed that it barely has anything at all that i could watch..

i tried to search for some movies i wanted to watch forever but never had the change, from a list of 10, only had one...
so i tried to watch some of tv series, and i noticed that in some cases it didn't even had the first seasons, or only had the first season...
ladybug is one of the first that comes to my mind, netflix only has the first season, while in the tv they air the second season but all the same 4-5 episodes so its crap (along with repetition of the first season all the time)
i watched a couple netflix original shows and i enjoyed them, they are okish, but my goal was to watch movies or tv series i lost..

so, i come back to my home, get me a free trial netflix to watch some stuff i was watching in vacation and surprise surprise...
REGION BULLSHIT
some shows or movies i was watching are not available in my country, and my country has also it's own stuff i couldn't find during vacation.
not only that, but the available languages and subtitles are all also differently available...
it really puzzles me what costs them to make every subtitle language available everywhere.
i can understand the different voices (specially some that have 5.1) takes room in the servers and i understand that to save some room, for example the italian language is only available in servers streaming for itally... but still...

but lets go back to the "movies\tv shows that are or not available to each country"
this is bullshit... and this is why i am not going to pay for a subscription...
i rather just buy a vpn and pirate all the way, i got everything available with some work of searching in torrents and whatnot...
and this is really annoying i am thinking all the movies and cool stuff other countries can watch\see and i am left ignorant with what they want me to watch...
you know, i am even thinking and pulling an illuminati conspiracy theory since i can only watch what they allow me...

I've been a victim of this shit too.
I wanted to watch Cult of Chucky on release day through Netflix, and I found it odd that I couldn't find it, when other people were saying they already saw it through Netflix.

So turns out it's another one of those region-locking bullshits as well.
Fucking assholes, it's such a shame since I wanted to watch the movie legit.
Oh well, fuck it then :^}

French netflix had to agree with French's audiovisual monopoly rule : they have to wait at least 2 years before providing any tv shows or movies currently broadcasted by french TV channels.
it creates some random season availability, for example Arrow has all season, while the Flash has only half, while Supergirl only one, etc.
as a result, you can't even use Netflix to follow all the DCmultiverse and all the cross over are just lost....

Not talking about all the movies available in other countries but not in France :(
The fun thing is that you can make a search, netflix knows about it but suggest you something else instead.

I'm also not happy with partial seasons :/
sometime, it's missing the first seasons, sometime they just stop providing a complete show (which I understand due to licensing price) but I'd appreciate if they'd notice everyone before removing anything. Like "this will be available only until xx/xx/xxxx). I missed lot of things because I thought I'd have time to watch but it just disappeared before I did.
I'd also appreciate a lot if they would provide a "next season starts on xx/xx/xxxx)

features are also plateform dependent !
I can't watch previews on Wii.
I can watch preview on PS4 and android.
I can watch "coming soon" on android only...

I don't like the way they sort things. "recent addition" have lot of old things. "New" have lot of old things, etc.
I'd prefer sorting by release date...

That's the bad side. There are also good ones, as I discovered new series and movies I wouldn't have watched otherwise and I liked a lot of them. I'm happy with it.
I also really appreciate the fact I can watch movies in Original audio version, and not dub only. most subtitles are also very good, except the k-drama subs which are just plain not watchable/readable. Even without understanding Korean you can notice the subtitle makes zero sense....

I also like the fact there are many things available ... legally. I don't have to search/download and can just watch things when I want.

I'd give a 8/10, I'm just annoyed for their region locked and missing seasons/movies.
I wanted to use VPN but it's too much hassle to setup and find proper ones. I also don't want to use it on pc, and hope I can use on ps4/NAS as proxy. too hard to setup.

Just use a VPN to trick Netflix the country your in. It's vewy easy to set up.
You can watch Japan exclusive stuff like Dragon Ball Z in a non Japan country.

Netflix hates VPNs. It can be a bit of a hassle to get it working. Worth it though.

i am aware of the VPN bypass, but there is no way i am going to pay 10 bucks every month for the service + the vpn and hassle to configure to bypass it..
i rather just get a vpn and pirate stuff lol
if i was sucking on someone's account like a friend or family member, probably i would bother with a vpn and the hassle to watch other country shows but yeah..

this is why you download the tv shows from that torrent site. Your already paying for netflix to you might as well stream the rest from a free site... Free sites dont care about region locking. Solves the problem
