What to do with a spare Wii?

So, for those of you who aren’t aware… The Wii is one of my favorite consoles. I still remember the Christmas when I first got one— Almost 11 years ago, now.

I’ve had one set up with RiiConnect24, Wiimmfi, and a spiffy Wiiflow setup for a while now, and I still love it as much as I did when I first experienced the console all those years ago.

One of my friends recently gave me their console, noting that they don’t use it anymore, since their Wii U is backwards compatible. It’s already got HBC installed, Bootmii as Boot2, CIOS-es are patched for USB loaders, and it’s on 4.3u.

Here’s the thing: I have no clue what to do with it. I thought about setting it up in the living room and letting my roommates mess around with it, but they probably wouldn’t use it. I also knocked around the idea of building a portable Wii, but I suck at soldering and don’t really have many tools, money, or materials outside of the console itself.

So, anyone have any clever ideas for this little guy? I feel weird not putting it to SOME use.

Hello.:)

It's great that you're wondering where and how you could use this Wii.:)
Maybe someone is here on GBAtemp who does not have that much money and would like to have a Wii and maybe even from your area. You would certainly make someone happy with it.:)

There is some kind of Wii Debian you can put on there... but alas not very useful, just cool :)
You can use it as a smart TV, put all your movies and music on there and just crank it up when you want to watch or listen, but alas not anything I can think to do...

You say you have no use for it, and have 98 posts... well, you've almost reached the right to sell it on gbatemp, where I guess you can get a premium (ie 5 dollars on top of the usual 20 lol) for supporting custom boot2?
Which will in turn be likely bought by an enthusiast!

Well, it seems as though the most likely option is flipping it here, or to a friend in dire need of some homebrew. Its DVD-drive doesn't work (Good motor, bad laser), so I don't really know how much I could get for it.

In the end, I might just hold onto it in case a power supply, fan, or something dies in my main console, or until a magical engineering genie appears to me in the middle of the night and offers to build a portable out of it for no cost whatsoever.

Whichever comes first.

Does an SD Card drive exist for the Wii? You know, like there is for the Saturn and DC, but with the only main provider of the device being the kind of asshole that, once another option comes about, it will be funny to watch him be like "why are my drives not selling anymore!?"

@Silent_Gunner there are ODEs but they haven't been made for years (shop01media still has the sundriver if you really want one), easier to just remove the optical drive mechanical parts (only the PCB is required to be there) and install an internal USB drive... and even easier yet is to don't bother and just get a 128 jeeg SD in the front slot (been there done both)
