Guys, Something bad happened :(

So somebody walked off with my backpack from the lobby of novotel in barcelona sant joan despi while I put it down near the sofas for second to go sign the papers for check in. The CCTV saw the guy, but the hotel staff wasn't very helpful and i was asked to go to the local police station to file a report. Local police station sent me to another bigger station, nice cop helps files the report for me. Over 2 weeks later, no info on the bag. Going to apply for travel insurance and see where that goes.

Total Damage -
1. Nintendo Switch unpatched with SX OS pro dongle + 400gb sd card loaded with games + nyko power case with over 10 switch catridges (oh my jesus...it hurts to even type it)
2. Alienware 15 R1 gtx980m (a little old, but still used to run like a beast)
3. Ipad Mini 4 64gb
4. Other smaller stuff.

I know it was stupid of me to even let go of my backpack for a second, but that laptop is so heavy, it hurts my shoulders after carrying it for a while. Plus, I was in the hotel lobby of Novotel, not some random street or subway. Absolutely, did not expect something like this to happen.

Sorry for complaining, but i had to vent. Only sadness and despair remains....the switch was irreplaceable, rest i can buy back eventually.

As a word of advice for the future, if you're taking off a heavy backpack like that, hook a strap around your leg. That way, even if somebody did try something, you'd know straight away.

Sucks it happened though.

I feel for you, but why would you leave a bag with that amount of valuables unattended? You could have just taken it with you and sat it down by you.

Thank you for the condolences. I will remember your advice for the future, may no one suffer such a fate.

That really sucks. Sorry that someone had to be such a douche.

However. No, the Switch is not irreplaceable.

Its a lotta hunting around and mostly paying premium pricing to find an unpatched switch now days. Plus its more difficult for me cos there is no official retailer of Nintendo products in India. Yeah, its not impossible....but not happening anytime soon for me. Lets see, how much insurance money i can get back. I'll definitely use it to buy an unpatched switch first. The hunt begins...

I understand your unfortunate situation. But it's still not irreplaceable. :)

as someone that just lost a hard drive filled with ~10 years of save files and documents, the stuff on that laptop could very well be irreplaceable

Jeez, sorry to hear it man. I didn't have anything very important on the pc just a few pictures though. Sounds like you lost some worthwhile stuff in that hdd.

yeah, thankfully the hard drive revived itself for just long enough to save what i could, but wasn't happy about it, then it decided to heat up to temperatures where it would physically burn to touch then decided to jump off my desk when i left it unattended for like 5 minutes, killing itself off completely

now i have like 2.5TB worth of games, mods and fixes i have to redownload

As tough as it is you'll eventually get over it and replace them if you decide you want to replace those items. I once had a collection of 700 original games all complete like new condition and I won't get into details but I got into a bad situation that couldn't be helped and they were sold for pennies on the dollar, some of the rarest games in existance were included. It hurt but I eventually got over it you will too.

If from what I've seen of JJBA Golden Wind/Vento Aureo has taught me anything, people on the streets of Italy are so desperate for anything that they'll pickpocket others!

Except I was specifically referring to the OP's comment that the Switch was irreplaceable. :)

You're not meant to leave bags unattended in any public area, for all anyone knew it could have been an IED. Still hopefully you've learned your lesson - a pricey one at that. I've had similar happen to me, bag stolen on a train from the luggage area - lots of goodies in it as well. I never got anything back from the insurance and I doubt you will either as you basically abandoned your property and when you went back later it was gone (that's how the insurance company will see it).

Sorry to hear about that. UGH, there is nothing worse than a thief! I believe in karma, so that scumbag will get what's coming to them!

I've done something similar one time, had my first 3ds, and money from an inheritance 1000's in a sling bag: out doing laundry. When I left, I forget to zip the bag, threw it over my shoulder to ride my motorcycle, got home to find it all emptied out while riding. I lost at least 3k, plus the 3ds with several games. I was more pissed about the 3ds than the money. Harumph.
I feel your pain...

Just FYI, (Rome) Italy is considered [one of] the Pickpocket capital of the world; according to some professionals in that field. The one that told me does it for entertainment.... in Italy. ... based on Rome Police Reports.

If CCTV captured the person, I'm confused as to why the police have not done anything. Have you contacted them and asked that same question?

There are so many thefts happening in Spain everyday that the police don't bother with them anymore. There's even a stupid law where if you get robbed for less than 500 euros, it's not considered a criminal offense. But I had no freaking idea that thieves are roaming around in 4 star hotel lobbies too, fucking ridiculous. Plus, I was on vacations, had my next destination coming up so had to leave Barcelona without my stuff anyway.

...? the value of all that stuff combined is at least 1500 euros what kind of crack are they smoking

Did you try using find my iphone if you had an ipad in there?
