I don't get coffee

I have drank coffee many times especially as a kid but for some reason I lost a taste for it as an adult. I did try to drink it recently but I discovered it raised my blood pressure and heart rate. I know that isn't the case for everyone, but the more I think about it I don't get it.

Most people that drink coffee aren't about to exercise. So why do you need it?

Since I've gotten off coffee and most caffeine I feel so much more clearheaded. I go to the gym every day yes 7 days a week, and I don't need caffeine to do strenuous exercise at all and I'm someone who has diabetes and health issues.. So why would someone who is just sitting around need it?

I understand a little bit needing it to wake up. But it reminds me of something I was taught in school about cigarettes. Before you ever smoke you are at a certain level, then you smart smoking and you get sort of a buzz from it. But after repeated daily use you end up at a lower level than you started and need the cigarette just to get back to the level you started before you ever smoked. So it's an addition.

I believe coffee works in a similar way. Sure you get a buzz especially when you haven't drank it in a while. But once it becomes many cups a day you don't really get that buzz and you end up dependent on it. Most likely feeling lower than before you started drinking coffee and needing it to get back to normal levels. It's is absolutely a drug. Maybe not like cocaine or heroine that kills you, but it's an addictive substance that isn't necessary.

I do acknowledge that they say there's some health benefits I concede that, but you can likely get those and more from green tea (which I am an avid drinker of and I think is great I brew tons of it). But as far as coffee it for energy throughout the day and drinking it constantly I don't really get it. I feel fantastic better than I ever have off of it. My family including my mom are all coffee drinkers big time. But I don't think it does much to help them other than feed their addiction for it. I just don't think our bodies were created to run off caffeine like a car does gasoline. My energy levels are fine without it.

I absolutely love the taste and the smell of a nice black coffee, there is no greater feeling in the world than that first sip of the morning

Well, well... if the main dish is sugar you're not going to last long probably.

PS: I wonder, if there are flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers, there must be a healthy-sugar conspiracy movement with a fancy name.

Quantumcat since you're still not understanding me ill explain another way. Why do people abuse coffee for energy. Im not talking about taste.

The same reason people abuse hamburgers for quick-pleasure and as an antidepressant measure.

PS: they don't know better and just get addicted, lack of discipline.

sugar is just as addictive as cocaine, only big difference is that refined sugar is legal - I mean you are never gonna get rid of sugar from your diet completely, hell carbohydrates are broken down into the stuff

I metabolize rapidly through my liver, so I don't get any effect from the caffeine. Straight coffee drinking is usually a ritual/addiction for the taste and/or energy rush. 'Fancy coffee' is probably mostly an excuse to have a dessert.

@JayMathis you answered your own question with your question.

"Why do people take pot to get high"
"Why do people drink alcohol to get drunk"
...
"Why do people take a drug, that is used for energy, to get energy"

The point is you don't get sustainable energy from coffee. You get a slight buzz for a short period of time. Then you create an energy deficit that you're always trying to climb out of by drinking more coffee. So it's pointless.

That might be true, but it is what people choose to do, to fulfil needs they have at the time.

Well, it is the same when you just eat to avoid depression. You avoid depression for a short period of time, but then depression comes back stronger. Quick fix, trap, vicious circle. IMHO, lack of knowledge, lack of discipline.

True, the people who market coffee are geniuses. Same addictiveness as cigarettes with none of the negativity. I mean, the people who created Starbucks have to have like 200 IQ. Sell coffee that costs .05 and add some sugar and milk and whatever the fuck else people want and charge $8. Morons lining up to buy it, freaking genius.

LOL, if you are talking about selling cheap product with high addictive factor to make a big profit, then sure you should go first for:
  • Coca-Cola
  • McDonalds and co.
  • The whole sweets/sugar industry, candybars, etc.
  • Sure Starbucks
  • And so on and so forth
I mean, consumerism needs addiction, that's how our economy and society "works".

I don't drink coffee either. I was born in '81, and I've only had about 10 cups of coffee in my entire life.

For me, it's just part of my routine. Sometimes I stop at the local convenience store or gas station and get a big coffee on my way in to work. Most days I don't, and instead just make a cup once I get to the office. Or two. Sometimes I do both. Sometimes I forget and don't have coffee at all. Sometimes I throw an energy drink on top of that (though I try to stay away from them a bit more lately).

Regardless of how much caffeine I drink, and I've been doing this routine for probably the past 8 years, never been "addicted" to the caffeine. It does help to perk me up a tiny bit in the morning but getting up and moving about and having a few glasses of water will do the same eventually too. But otherwise, never had any sort of caffeine headache or anything like that, and no other negative effects like increased heartrate or blood pressure.

And I keep it simple. I'm more than happy with a cup with a splash of milk/half and half/powdered creamer, or just black. I haven't had sugar in coffee in probably 7 years.

It does make me poop more sometimes though.
