I should change my mouse, any product recommendation?

I have been using Logitech MK240 keyboard+ mouse combo in the past two years. However I just recently realized that my right wrist feels so painful in the night. While the keyboard is quite comfortable to use, it seems not the case with the mouse. It seems a bit too small for my palm. I stopped using the mouse for a while and switched back to my wired microsoft mouse (which is larger and more ergonomic). Unfortunately this mouse is quite old (an american friend gave it to me in 2013 during my study in NZ), and I am not sure how long it can last. The wheel seems starting to fail.

(the product is actually this one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D66-00069-Wheel-Optical-Mouse/dp/B00025O7FC )

I am thinking to buy a high-end mouse as I consider it as a long term investment. If you have an ergonomic mouse recommendation, please let me know!

Jesus, they're charging the price of a newly released game for a basic mouse like that? Maybe it's just Amazonomics in play...

Logitch G903 Chaos Spectrum or whatever number it is. It, along with the G915 keyboard (which is wireless and mechanical), are such a good pair that I can use it on a TV tray as a sort of "desk" for my HTPC, be it on an office chair in the middle of the room or right beside my bed, and the wireless is so good on the mouse that the only thing you'd need a cable for is to charge it, which, unfortunately, is micro-usb and not USB-C, with the charging story being the same for the G915.

Even @Chary reviewed the mouse at one point. IDK if anyone's reviewed the KB on this site, though...

Do you have a big hand?
I use G903. It fits my hand perfect. At work I use a MX Master since the thumb rest is really nice.

Then again my hands are like those of a freaking gorilla...

@linuxares and @g00s3y: I take it the MX Master 3 doesn't have the Lightspeed wireless that the G903 does? 'Cause I remember eyeing it in the past and thinking it looked nice, big, and possibly comfier (not that the G903 is bad by any means, of course!), but with G903 already in hand, all I'd be using it for is to eliminate one less thing I'd need my micro-USB cable collection for at this point and maybe having a backup on hand for when the G903 eventually bites the dust on me.

@Silent_Gunner "they" being a 3rd party reseller that couldn't care less about the actual value of a $20 mouse..

The G903 isn't ergonomic, either. It's not a bad mouse, though. I throw another vote for the MX Master 3.

Look at the Microsoft Intellimouse Pro and the SteelSeries Sensei which should be very close to your ms mouse.

ps.: I'm using the Zowie EC1-A which is heavily inspired by the Intellimouse and i really like it.

@Memoir Yeah, but I'm wondering about if I'd be trading off the quality of the wireless of the G903 by going for the MX Master 3's comfort.

Because once I get the last of my bills paid off in about a month (with the job I'll be working and the OT on offer, it should be done in, like, four weeks), let's just say that I'll be free at last to maybe buy some things while working towards my big goal of getting out of Illinois, and hoping that the new tax Prtizker wants to pass won't screw my plans on that front up too hard come March when things get warm again!

If you're interested in a wireless one, I can recommend the Logitech G502 Lightspeed. Looking at the ones available with lightspeed, that one seemed the closest to my old MX518 in shape (the others were either ambidextrous or didn't have a proper thumb rest), and I've been happy with it. It is smaller than the MX518 though, which means I can't fully rest my hand on it the way I could with the MX518, as it makes the left and right mouse button finger positioning feel unnatural. I have big hands though so YMMV.

I will leave others to discuss the merits of mice.

What I am more here to say though is pain is less likely to be from the mouse itself and more either the use in general of it or your technique when using it.
Type a 100000 word essay on a mechanical keyboard or use a mouse with serious weight to it and yeah it can make things worse but 99 times of 100 it is technique, posture and general overuse.

Go do the research on what you should be doing here -- warm room, move fingers rather than arm, take breaks, position your chair/height properly...

It is something to take seriously while it is just ache in the evening. Or if you prefer I have met those in their early 20s that can not wipe their own arse because they did not take this sort of thing seriously and will likely be that way for life (there are some surgeries that can help and robot arm will probably be a thing in a couple of decades, even without that then there are odd style keyboards and input methods you can use. Following your blogs the last however long it seems you have clawing your way out of a hole so don't chuck yourself in a bigger one (you let RSI/carpal tunnel go all the way and you can't even stack shelves).

I’ve got the Logitech m720 triathlon. It comes with a 2.4ghz dongle and it’s Bluetooth. It can connect 3 devices and you can hotswap between all 3 easily. It’s a comfortable right handed mouse, but I can use my left comfortably. I use it for my xp (using the dongle), windows7, and windows10 laptops. I don’t game with it though. I’d say get an ambidextrous mouse and use your other hand. I got this one for $20 on eBay new.

I use the Logitech G403 and I love it. I haven't found a wireless mouse with lag that isn't perceptible to me yet.

a friend recommended me to get a mouse with a trackball, does it really make a difference?

@shaunj66 The lightspeed mice (G305, G502, G604, G703, G903, G Pro Wireless) genuinely have zero added latency compared to wired, measured using hardware, in fact they have lower latency than many wired mice. If you try one out and you think you notice lag, 99.9% it's psychosomatic. The range isn't the greatest (that can possibly be improved by lowering the poll rate to something more reasonable like 250 Hz, haven't tried) as they're not using bluetooth. Bluetooth adds a lot of latency. But reaches about 2 meters with some obstacles in the way without issues.

@The Real Jdbye you're probably right but my OCD like nature still wouldn't allow it :P

@eriol33 Supposed to be useful for the creative types (CAD work, Photoshop etc) and are still used by many of those, but doesn't do much to improve anything else.

A trackball is pretty nice. My wife uses one and she has wrist problems as well. The mice with a trackball are usually more ergonomic.
