Today will be my last day as Chief Editor at GBAtemp.net :(

I've been a member of the forum since day 1, and part of GBAtemp from before it even became a website.
I started out as a mod/release poster and worked my way up to admin, then became Chief Editor.

As Chief Editor I dealt with over 150,000 press inquiries, aquired over 1000 game review codes, and built a team of amazing mag staff who I hope will continue to publish great content for the site.

I am sad to step down, but I'll be 40 years old next year and perspective and priorities change with age. I'm doing really well in my career IRL, and my children are at the ages where they need me more than ever.

For these reasons I've made the choice to move to Former Staff.

I wish everyone here all the best, and I hope to watch the site continue to grow. When we started this forum I had no idea it would become so popular, and still be going strong nearly 20 years later!

Thanks for everything and keep on rocking..

Peace out G-town!

P.S Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do or be something. Always challenge if you believe you are right, but most importantly, follow your dreams - if you put the work in, you'll go far!

Appreciate all you've done for the site, and I can attest to the fact that you're a top-notch editor. You'll certainly be missed as part of the staff, but you gotta do what's right by you and your family. Cheers. :)

Thanks for everything you have done here over the years Thug, you really went above and beyond as staff in every position you held. You were a bad ass chief editor and your hard work really made the temp legit! I am really happy for you that everything irl is going so well, that is the best reason to become former staff believe me!

I know you will still be around so I will see you around!

Max respect mate! :gun:

To echo all of the above, all the best with your real life endeavours.

It's thanks to guys like yourself that helped make the Temp what it has become after all this time and how so many of us loose cannons have stuck around also!

Seasons greetings and all the best to you and yours.... I certainly hope your leaving party is a good un and your successor has big shoes to fill. :toot::grog::bow:

Thank you for everything you have done on the temp but more importantly thank you for letting me do an official gbatemp.net review. You were absolutely amazing in all the help and advice you gave little old me who had no clue what they were doing. I may have only done the one review but it meant the absolute world to me that you gave me a shot.

I hope you won't be a stanger and we see you every now and again back here on the site.

I never thought the day would come but I totally get it. Also we both know you're not actually going anywhere :P don't even kid yourself.

The temp owes so much to you Thug, and it's a shame things didn't work out quite as we had all hoped but I'm sure you're just as proud as I am to have got the temp as far as we have come with it. We certainly wouldn't be where we are today , on this almost 20 year long journey, without your absolute dedication and passion.

I hope we get to meet up again one day and have another beer together. Until then, mate :grog:

It's going to feel weird, since you've been a constant point in this whole community. I know you're not going anywhere, but it's the end of an era.

I don't know you, but your pic of you and children moved me more than i would have thought.
I'm 41yo, and have two sons, about the age of your children i guess.
It could be me on this pic.
Enjoy your family, see you around !

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
