"They" is plural. Why are people saying it? Are people to lazy to make a new word? It is stupid, plain and simple. Seriously, how hard is it to make a new word? Is there a new word? My sister's (or brother now) is asking me to call... "it" a "they". Why? Just ask me to call him/her/what the fuck a "he"? "They" is an already established word, don't fucking complicate it! Five years ago edgelord preteens called people "it" as an insult, and now it identifies gender? Wait, is it gender? Is it sexuality? Is it some other bullshit someone pulled out as a way to identify themselves to jump on the bandwagon? Is it legitimate? Is it a joke? Am I the only person confused and fucking sick of this stuff? AM I?
@HylianBran "it" typically is used to refer to objects rather than people within English, that's why "They" which is actually not plural, but one word that is both singular and plural at the same time like deer but it is different since iirc it is a preposition. Even then people just want to be referred to what they feel comfortable, and sometimes you just gotta read the room to understand that being a bit open makes life easier
@HylianBran
They/them has long changed to also be gender-neutral singular pronouns and most people already use they/them when referring to someone they don't know the gender of. I actually use they/them pronouns because I am non-binary, but I am also ok with she/her because they aren't male pronouns and that's what matters more.
My wife's doctor prescribed her a ointment for neck and knee pain, that cost $30. We just read the ingredients, and active ingredient is CBD, found exact ingredients in another off brand ointment online, for only $8. Our healthcare system at its finest.
