Repaired My Joycon!

Went ahead and sent my Switch right joycon for repair (local repair service, not Nintendo) since I have been experiencing intermittent issue with my A button being unresponsive and at random times double inputs, can be aggravating at times.

I purchased my Switch in April 2018, everything was from the box, no replacement of Joycons whatsoever, it's a wonderful console that has provided me endless hours of fun on end and despite me being careful not to drop anything, putting away the system in a hard case when not in use in a safe place issue still occured. Well, I'm aware nothing stays perfect but I'm still surprised nonetheless.

The guy said it's wear & tear and asked if I played any aggressive games? I said no fighting games or any games that requires me to bash buttons repeatedly.

Repair was done in under 30 minutes, so for now I'm gonna resume playing my RPGs and hope the issue never returned.

@Sonic Angel Knight I'm surprised that my joycon has not experienced any drifting at all. Haha, but am keeping my fingers crossed.

The Joycons are flimsy and seeing them fail is not very surprising. So many things packed inside. Wii Remote is so much more sturdy and easy. (On the pro side: Many components on the expensive Joycons can be replaced individually: They can be disassembled and assembled like Lego – only difference is that Lego cannot be easily damaged…)

I don't own a Switch (and don't plan getting one) but I had to deal with the flimsy Joycons last spring. The left analogue stick busted. Not the known drift issue – child damage. The (way too young for a Switch) girl wasn't very careful. The cap of the left stick was ripped off as well as the underlying plastic torn.
I opened the left Joycon and while disassembling according to ifixit destroyed the plug of the battery. D*mn! It was plugged in soooo hard that I wasn't able to remove it non-destructively.

Ordered a cheap repair set (two sticks, some tools and an extra battery) and replaced the stick. Started the Switch, calibrated left stick → fine. Then… why not calibrate the right stick as well? The OS said something like "Press the stick you want to calibrate." The new left stick worked. The right one… no click. Not responding when pressing the stick. Thank goodness the repair set had two replacement sticks. On the right Joycon the battery plug was very easy to remove. No trouble. No damage. Replaced that stick as well. Calibration successful on both.

Played half an hour of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for testing purposes and that was the only time I played a Nintendo Switch.

OMG! That sounded really complex! But thank you for sharing, you have a way of writing that is so fun and intriguing to read! I enjoyed it.

@KleinesSinchen The battery connector unplugs by pulling up, not sideways. I broke the connector on mine because I thought it pulled outwards, but it actually has 2 pieces that come apart by pulling up. All that was left were the metal pins sticking out and one of those broke off when I tried to plug the black connector back in. There's a tiny little indentation underneath between the battery wires you can fit something thin into to flip up the connector and disconnect it easily. It's not hard at all once you know how.

@Scott_pilgrim if by "patched" you mean CFW, no. If you meant updated to the latest official firmware, then yes.
