In Memory of Paddy

It's fair to say if Max was the brains paddy was definitely the face of the pair. With just a glance, this pig could get whatever he wanted. Paddy was also the guard of the herd he was the first to warn of danger (usually a car door) not that Max cared or wheek at the impending feeding time. Everyone who met him always remarked how much of a pretty, beautiful pig he was and right to the end he fought with everything he had. If someone offered to shorten my life by a year for just one more day with these two I would in a heartbeat.

These two pigs have done more for me in the last 4 and a half years than most humans have my entire life. They came into my life at a time where I was in a lot of physical pain and facing a lot of changes. They were there for me always ready for a cuddle or willing to put up with me being silly. It's fair to say for the last 4 and half years these two have kept me sane.
Paddy has been my face here for the last I don't know how many years now and at least for the foreseeable future that isn't going to change but I need a little time to heal. There's been a lot that has happened since the start of this year, My sister lost her battle with cancer, then just 5 weeks ago little Max crossed the rainbow bridge and now little paddy has gone to join him. So I will be going away for just a little while but before I go I would like to thank anyone reading this GBAtemp helps me in so many ways a lot of you couldn't even imagine. There are some really special people here and I think you all know who you are.
As a little thank you for making it through this I would like to share a few photos of both Paddy and Max (and sadly I managed to slip in there somehow ) and remember even small footprints can leave large impressions.

Thank you all for your comments, it really does mean a lot. This last week has been pretty rough, but both my wife and I are getting through it.
It's the little things you miss the most, the rustling of hay. The little bastards drinking from the water bottle and chewing card at 3 in the morning. The room just feels so empty without them.
That said we will be getting more, it really is just a matter of when rather than if, we could never in a million years replace Paddy and Max nor would we ever try. We would love to go with some more rescue pigs but sadly there really aren't any rescues around use that take in guinea pigs and neither of us currently drive.
I'll be back properly soon and once again thank you all :)

You can never really replace a pet, however, getting a new one always helps filling the void. It won't replace past memories but it will help making new ones.

I contend that most guinea pigs have more personality than most people these days.
We have decided to leave the cage empty, just for a little while. We are also gonna work on some upgrades for the cage. We want to switch to using 1/3 fleece rather than just woodshaving/hay that we have pretty much always used but we need to build a platform so can actually see them haha. I also want to add some lighting which I'm planning on using some LED strips controlled by a raspberry pi so that it changes the intensity and colour based on time of day and have a permanent version of the cooling system which I also want to tie into the pi with some sensors

Sorry for your loss, I have not lost pet yet (my current dog is my first pet), but can come close to imagining what you must be feeling. My heart goes out to you.
