How is it really possible that every "big company" and every government is evil?

For some reason I simply cannot believe that. These are smart people, no?
Perhaps I am too gullible or live in a too nice place, haven't been exposed to hardships involving any of the above institutions . . .

The people who think all these things are bad tend to be louder than the happy and content population.
Best to just make your own judgement and ignore the whining massess.

Paranoia and propaganda. No, not every government entity is looking at your browser history. No, not every corporation wants to nickel and dime you. It's just a sign of the times.

@Seriel there seems to be a trend in our culture these days that happiness and/or contentness is simpy not allowed anymore, even when it could be present? There always must be something to be disappointed about, or be worried about, at least I was brought up in a culture like this? Otherwise you are weak, irresponsible, or selfish. What do you think about that, is it simply something I am making up or do you see it as a general trend as well?

Money for money's sake and power for power's sake U ' w ' U
But that isn't very wise thinking for what are supposed to be very well educated people U ' w ' U
Therefore I can hardly believe such a simple explanation?

Very well educated?

A guy in a suit may very well be stupider then a person who was always too poor to have an opportunity to ever get a career like that started

Companies do tend to want your money-
After all, that’s what everyone needs to survive. But unfortunately when some people get too much money, they start to lose some of their morals

In the end, most things can be tied to money

The Zucc doesn’t run Facebook to have access to every part of peoples lives- he runs it to have access to that info so it can be used to make more money!
...

Sometimes it is just as simple as “haha funny money” that can motivate someone to do everything they do in their day to day life

Assuming meritocracy is misleading at best in the current world. Rich people are overwhelmingly so because of inheritance, not industriousness. Human suffering is a conduit for increasing revenue, too, if the COVID crisis has shown anything. The wealth divide grows rapidly by the minute.

Governmental bodies are insular and positions that anyone can theoretically attain like the President of the United States are massively contingent on the media's influence, which is owned and operated by the rich, not to mention requiring an enormous amount of personal resources. Once in, politicians are subject to a battery of moral testing by corporations, moneyed interests and lobbies who are happy to douse them in money if they'll vote against the interests of the people.

"It's a big club, and you ain't in it."

Companies exist solely to create a profit, everything else comes secondary, which means fair wages, eco-friendly production and even human rights all are second to profit (if they can get away with it). Companies have no incentive to do good and if they do end up doing any good, it's by coincidence.

There's a pretty good quote from Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney: "We have no obligation to make history. We have no obligation to make art. We have no obligation to make a statement. But to make money, it is often important to make history, art, a statement, or all three." While Eisner does acknowledge the importance of making good things, he also says that he has no obligation to do so. The implication is that profit comes before all else and I think this quote serves as a pretty good mantra for Capitalism as a whole, a system that prioritizes profit over all else.

Government is a bit trickier, and it depends on what system of governance you live under. I wouldn't call "every government evil" but there are certainly forms of government that are evil or susceptible to evil. Obviously Fascist governments are a great example.

In addition, much like how under Capitalism every company can be considered evil (to varying extents) due to the system incentivizing said evil, Capitalist governments serve primarily to protect private property and by extension they protect, empower and reinforce companies. Think about how lobbying is so prevalent in the US and how police seemingly exist almost solely to protect the interest of corporations or entities that make a profit.

If you submit a report asking the police to investigate a break-in at your house, they might do it, but they likely won't do much and it won't lead anywhere because finding your stolen stuff doesn't make a profit/protect profits. Now if something like a Target got robbed, there is a much higher chance of that case being investigated and getting actual results because there is a lot of money and a lot of profit on the line. Now you might say "duh the police care more about the Target, that's a lot of money being lost!" But who is more important? You? Or the evil corporation? A sensible person would say "Obviously you, law enforcement should exist to protect the people!" But a Capitalist would say "Obviously the corporation, think about how Target's profit loss would hurt the economy! We would all lose millions!"

With this brief example, I think that demonstrates a bit about how a Capitalist government can always be considered bad. We already know companies are bad based on the first part of what I wrote out, but my police example demonstrates how Capitalist governments don't exist to serve the people, but profit. This isn't because some evil government guy hates people and is a greedy bastard or because all police are mean jerks who want to beat up civilians, but because within the logic of Capitalism it simply makes the most logical sense to preserve profits over all else, to do otherwise would be the logic of a different system, a system that we don't have the privilege of living under.

Of course that's just my opinion, and a brief one at that. But I think it's a pretty solid answer.

That. Doing good things isn't usually profitable or easy. Doing bad things is usually profitable and easy. The rules of competition tend to dictate that the one who does the bad things will always win out. It's the path of least resistance.

That's why (in the US) libraries and schools and public parks are so underfunded and the US police have more funding than almost every other country's army in the world and why oil companies make billions of dollars destroying the Earth with little to no consequences besides the fact that their actions will inevitably make the planet inhospitable within the next few centuries unless we do something to stop them.

Because corruption spreads like wildfire. All you need is one person in power with selfish desires, and that company or body of governance will be compromised.

As a business owner myself, I can say that I take LOTS of decisions that are not rational for the sake of helping people involved (and hurting my business a little as consequence). I am the only owner, so it is easy.

If I had 5 partners, I would have to justify myself 5 times for losing that material, for forgiving that debt or for not earning that money, so It would be hard to act nicely.

If I was a CEO I would be fired even before have a chance to justify myself.

That's why big companies are evil, because the employees involved are not free to lose something that belongs to the investor.

As for governments, USA is evil, China is evil, Russia is evil, nobody will question that. But Cyprus, Switzerland, Finland, Bolivia, Iceland, Singapore and many others, are they really evil? Seriously, some cross the path of big powers and are framed as evil, but do they really are?

I'm not convinced that capitalism is entirely bad until a better alternative has been proven . . . but then again the capitalism of denmark is not exactly the same as the one of most other countries . . . I'm sure its worse everywhere else . . .
