Pretty creative with all those titles.

My way of dealing with Nintendo punching their fans is simple: I don't buy any Nintendo products anymore. Full ignore mode.

If somebody insists of making a non-profit fan game they should do it quietly and release the final product. DMCA'ing the finished game an hour after release will not (really) make it go away as it will already have been copied to a 1000 places.

The question is: Why bother? Why staying a loyal fan and put your skills and work performance into something that will be attacked?

I can already hear the clicking of keys as Nintendo’s lawyers are making C&D for every single title listed

@KleinesSinchen Exactly! I don't feel like supporting their products anymore. When you hurt the community, you hurt everyone. Unbelievable stupidly they can survive without their fans.

At least they have a strong competition with Steam Deck. This is going to change things. Valve is not perfect, but they treat the community 9000x better than Nintendo ever did.

@SG854 I like that one.
Just came up with a few others:
  • Link's Journey out of Japan
  • Super Bros Legends
  • Super Mario Super

Very soon Nintendo will hire a new department so they can come with variants of their titles and possible mods, in order to copyright every single one of them. Prevention, not reaction is a better strategy :rofl2:
Another strategy perhaps, is to teach the kids in school to never make any Nintendo fan art, so they can grow up knowing the rules and avoid lawsuits.

And btw... let's not invoke Nintendo name in vain, or we might have problems too.

god you cant even say "fan game" without people making their hilarous and original dmca jokes

(before you say it no i dont support nintendo sending dmcas to fangames i just find the jokes unfunny)

@Scott_pilgrim Jokes are a way of criticism. The point I'm trying to make is to over-exaggerate the subject, so that companies understand fans are all they have, and without them you risk not having a business at all. In their case, jeopardising the community with lawsuits, specially given the passion, as well as the commitment from people that love their games, should not be their course of action. There are ways to embrace the work of fans, and still profit from it. Look at what SEGA is doing for example. Seems to be working well.

I agree that people working on these fan games, should not have used Nintendo artwork/copyrighted material, only due to the negative actions we have seen coming from them, not because of copyright. All they are doing is incentivising players and creators to produce the content they want anyway, but through illegal means, and they won't see a dime for it.
Another common exemple is all the doom ports and the doom community that continues to blossom, almost 30 years later. Had ID Software acted with malevolence early on, they wouldn't benefit from the IP as they continue to do now. It has became a staple at this point.
