Modded xbox360 journey

Hello reader, I’ve got this Xbox from my brothers friend for 5 dollars. It had rrod’d, but I knew it was still under warranty and sent it off for repair. Great, it works! This was 10 years ago. Since then, I’ve replaced the thermal paste and cleaned EVERYTHING. Recently, I got an xk3y and a x360usbpro v2. I’ve got most things working (still trying to figure out loading my xgd3 backups).

It’s been running fine, but knowing that if it dies I can use the xk3y in a new console. I am willing to take risks and thinking that I can learn a few things with this console. I’ve always wanted to mod this 360 and now I feel I’m ready to do it. So, I installed a switch.....

The stock dual fans now have a constant 12v and the on/off switch is wired with on being 5v and off being 3.3v. When I toggle the switch, my fans toggle between 7v and 9v now. I wasn’t sure which I would like so I wired them like this. I may remove the switch and stick with 7v. 9 volts is a bit loud.

Now, I just cut the logo in the shell. First time cutting a shell with a dremel. Looks pretty rough, though and i don’t like it much. Maybe more sanding. Anyhow, I’ll probably scrap this cut and cut a giant window. I’ve got a plexiglass sheet to go behind the shell and create my window.

In the future I may paint it. I have a vinyl cutter and will probably put stickers on the window in hopes that the light behind will create nice silhouette.

Made this sticker out of an image I found.

Now months later.....
I’ve finally installed an led strip, cut this hole and covered it with plexiglass. At first, I wanted the window cut straight, but I kind of like it like this better.

I cut this castle crashes sticker with my vinyl cutter and put it outside the glass. The green bit is stuck on the dvd drive (which I may or may not cut a window in). I’m going to put a sticker over the shroud too, I’m just not sure if Tempy would look nice there. I may paint the shroud or stick a color sticker there as a background.
Also, I think I messed up my led controller. I may have wired the polarity wrong and blew the controller. I’m stuck with blue....for now.

That is really cool, reminds me of some of my old cover hack ups on the Phats. Here's a few I did for friends years ago:

Cool! How did you cut the shell? I used a Dremel. The plastic is hard to work with. Damn, my images are gone from here. I'll have to upload new ones.

Oh. Wow. I didn’t know I could click on them. I learned something new for today. I try to learn something new each day. :)

Your dremel skills are better than mine, for sure. Those consoles look nice. This was the first time I’ve used one.

I almost did the double window that you did, but decided not to so I can put a decal there. I was also looking to cut the optical drive like you did, but I scrapped the idea after my frustrations cutting the window.

I do like the temp sensor idea. I’m about to pull the temp sensor off my bike controller, so I’ll have one available soon.

Yea cutting that dvd drive open was a bitch. had to drill holes, then use tin snips. I just used a PC fan controller you can buy for like $20 -
