Swine Flu

So... Apparantly swine flu has reached my brothers school. He's been in contact with a kid who might be suspected. of having it...

That would be crazy shit if my family gets it.

But anyways, we're wearing face masks LOL

Swine flu is less dangerous than the normal seasonal flu.
The only reason people think its scary is that its immune to some antiviruses.
Other than that, its the normal flu.....

Funny you should mention that. My grandparents were on the cruise ship that is now quaranteened and Doug is now having respiratory problems. I am a bit worried though as he has been having issues with his systems since Vietnam and had to get a leg amputated last year.
And to make matters worse, he said that they only had sun for 1 dy with the rest being spent with the storms.

Pretty sure that he will be fine. Diane is feeling fine and doug has never been that great. The main thing they hate is the isolation as they are very family oriented.

a lot of schools are getting closed nearby i live in Melbourne Australia in the northern suburbs

I hope your grandparents make it through unscathed. I know it doesn't mean much on some random forum, but I wanted to say thanks to Doug for his military service and his sacrifice.

@OSW: Good luck. I hope your family is unaffected.

Its better to get it now because if it happens to mutate and turn into something we can't cure then your fucked but if you get it now you will already have the antibodies against it.

Uh, no. Not quite.

If it mutates in a way which changes the antibody binding site (which most viruses and bacteria do), then antibodies from the original strain will no longer work.

Thanks a bunch mate.

About two weeks ago, my temperature went up very fast. I got out of school early and my dad took me to the doctors and they stuck a big qtip type thing up my nose to test me for swine flu. Well, just got the results back last friday, and i was positive for swine flu. I'm like the first confirmed case in maryland probably lol.

But speaking from experience, it wasn't that bad for me. Idk if i had immunity but it was much better than a normal flu. My body didn't feel heavy and sore like a normal flu and after like 2 days i was much better, I just couldn't go to school cause they were afraid of spreading the infection when they didn't know what i had.

On the news this morning the newscasters announced "The number of deaths from Swine Flu in New York has doubled!" [...dramatic pause...] "...to four!"

Really, if it was the pandemic the media would have us believe we'd all be boarded into our homes watching each other for symptoms (ala John Carpenter's The Thing) and impatiently waiting for the world to end.

I'll take my chances with the Zombie Apocalypse before I worry about the Swine Flu. :glare:

lol yep, the media is making a big deal over this rubbish, its just a weaker version of the flu and that can be solved with some flu tablets and rest and CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP :D
