First Midnight Launch Experience

img20110327004208.jpg

So I got back from the midnight launch for the 3DS. (There just so happened to be one at a Gamestop by my university.) This was my very first midnight launch event and I got there about 10PM, two hours before they were about to sell it. I didn't know what to expect to be honest, I was kind of nervous. I thought it was going to be packed, but it really wasn't. Probably about 30 or 40 people there, some of them not even getting a 3DS. Just being there with their friends. Anyways, I had a great time, I got to talk to many people and I played some games with some of them (mainly Pokemon). One of the guys was really an RPG fanatic, he knew a lot of RPGs I didn't know of and recommended a few of them to me.

When it came to midnight though, I just got my 3DS and games and I left. Too bad I wasn't able to get their 3DS FC. But I still had a great time, I hope I'll be able to attend another one soon.

Hope everyone that attended one had a great time!

I've been to a few midnight launches. My most memorable ones were Halo 2 and 3. At the Halo 2 launch the first guy in line went in the store and came out with his copy running and when he came off the side walk on to the parking lot he fell flat on his face. At the Halo 3 launch they let us wait inside the mall that tim a and there was this kid who looked like he was around 6 or 7 waiting with his dad. The kid takes out a deck of playing cards and starts doing card tricks. He was really good but his finale blew every ones minds when he pulled the card and threw it at a plate glass window and it was stuck between the panes. If I had not seen it in person I wouldn't believe it.

I have only been to one midnight launch, and it wasn't even for anything I was really interested in, but I had a great time regardless.

It was for the Starcraft 2 launch last year, Im not really a starcraft fan but a friend of mine is crazy for it so asked me to go with him to keep him company. The line was pretty big, and went around the block but we managed to get close to the front even though we didn't get there that early. They had a bunch of sexy girls in short shorts giving out blue starcraft muffins to the people in the line, and they also gave us goody bags with stickers and posters and other stuff for free. There were people in big starcraft costumes working the line and having their pictures taken with the crowd too. The most amusing part of the night was when the police pulled some dude out of the line and took him away, for some reason he decided to be in the line with a huge sword. Go figure. :P

Once inside the store there was a photographer who took everyones picture, shopped their face in a starcraft helmet and gave them a big glossy photo of it for free. And lastly we all had our copies of the game signed by a couple of the devs who were attending the launch. :D (don't ask me who they are though haha)

It was an awesome night and I almost didn't go to it, but was glad I did.

Ridge Racer is pretty fun. If you don't have any games pre-ordered, I'd get it.

Those sound like fun. I wish the 3DS launch over here were more like these stories and worthwhile.

Both Gamestops here opening early tomorrow, but no midnight launch. Called both Walmarts, and got 2 separate morons in the electronics departments who didn't know what a 3ds was, nor if they would have any. They wouldn't know until after midnight. >.>

Um there was no one in the store dude.

Also it was in between two panes of glass!

are you absolutely sure about that
the point of the trick is make sure the spectators dont see anybody on the other side of the glass
and according to your description he did a good job

According to my description it was a double plate glass window bro. So explain that to me please.

no trick like this exists or will ever exist because its impossible, a double pane window is sealed filled with one of the noble gas's and is air tight in between (unless its rigged which would be rather expensive and which I doubt in this case)
there is nothing I can find about an illusionist performing this in between panes trick or any information about this trick
many famous illusionists have performed the card through window trick though, most likely he performed this one as its a fairly easy trick as long as you have a competent helper

the majority of these tricks just involve distracting spectators while "magic" happens

I know it's a trick. These were not normal windows they were store front windows with maybe a foot and a half to two feet of space between them that had mannequins in there. The only way he could have done this trick was for it to be pre-arranged... For all I know his dad could have been the store manager and the dude he chose to pick the card could have been a relative.

If you just want pi for emulation no point when Anbernic releases new shit every two seconds
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway
