Sleep Paralysis

The other night, I was awake working at my computer till 3am. Of course, deciding that my sleep was more important, I decided to call it a night. I managed to doze off in a few minutes and went away into dreamland. I dont know how many minutes passed, I awoke for some reason. I looked at the time and only 30 mins had passed. Annoyed it was hours away from dawn, I tried to fall asleep again.

This is the weird part. Suddenly I started getting this feeling that I was being watched by a presence in the room and a strange low buzzing sound. Deciding I was imagining things I just ignored it. Then it felt as if the presence was comin closer to me with the sounds gettin louder. Okay it was kinda getting freaky so I decided to just flip around to check it out. What happened next just freaked me out. I suddenly felt this presence rushed upon me and pressed me down. I couldnt move my body at all. My legs, hands and head just went numb and started feeling someone was doin something on my back like drawing lines. I didnt know what to do but then felt like i could move my finger tips. Then all of a sudden the whole thing suddenly stopped like nothin happened. I looked up saw nothing. Just staring into the darkness.

One thing I can say was I wasnt half as scared as I should have been. Sometime around last year, I had come across an article on this kind of a condition, Sleep Paralysis. Of course it was mostly related to Alien Abductions experiences and all and I didnt bother to read much about it (Aliens? ) But the vivid experiences of the abductees sure enough got me intrigued of this condition.

Apparently, Sleep paralysis is a common condition where people are paralyzed at the onset of sleep or upon waking, often with terrifying hallucinations. During REM sleep, your brain is hyperactive and your body is essentially turned off to keep you from harming yourself at night.Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening due to the second part; the hallucinations. You start seeing things, overwhelming feelings of evil entities watching you, an intruder in your room, alien abductions, someone attacking or suffocating you in your sleep, and many others.

Why they happen? Causes included irregular sleeping schedules, sleep deprivation, increased stress, etc

Of course knowing it and experiencing it is something very different. Cause at that time its not like you have the time to think "Oh yeah this is just sleep paralysis" and it surely isnt the first thought that is going to pop into our mind.

In the end, I would say this " Sleep Paralysis" was a unique kind of experience. It was kinda cool :grog:

I don't get it that bad, It happens to me sometime when I go to sleep and here is what my dream is like:

I feel like there is a presence at my door and there is a high ringing sound and everything is black and white. (I have had this many times so I know how to get out of it) I never look at the door I always have my eyes pointed at the ceiling because one time I did look and there were two evil looking guys standing side-by-side in the door way. So basically I can't move anything but I tell myself to kick my leg. I keep on doing this til eventually I kick my leg and I wake up.

The episodes only last about 15 seconds or so everytime but that is what mine are like.

Sleep Paralysis can be pretty scary and confusing until you realization whats happening and that it happens to alot of other people. Another more pleasant expirence while sleeping is lucid dreaming, basically where you take control and realize youre dreaming in the middle of youre dream.

Look it up

I had sleep paralysis a few time as a kid. I just remember I wanted to shout out to someone but I couldn't move a muscle. My mind was awake but my eyes and lips couldn't move. I felt that my eyes were closed shut. I eventually got up, but it was a really hard battle for me as a kid.

I also experienced lucid dreaming as well. I think that's what I experienced though. Basically, I realize I'm dreaming in a dream and I also hear everything that's going on outside. My body's perfectly still and sleeping, but I continue dreaming and interpret every little noise and movement I hear. So.. I basically end up being able to see what's going on without opening my eyes. Even if I tried to open my eyes.. I wasn't able to.
