We humans are such a fickle bunch.
Riots in Egypt. We all say "We are united with Egypt and Mubarak should go" but now that the initial riot is over and Mubarak is gone...we dont care anymore even if there are still problems there.
Libya is next in line. Gaddhafi shoots innocent civilians and we do the same as with Egypt, he must go etc but the next thing hits the news and we forget about it.
There is a massive earthquake and the following tsunami, we all think its horrible and start donating money.
A few days after, we find out that a nuclear plant in Japan is having a meltdown. Its frontpage news. The fact that thousands of Japanese people starve and freeze to death is no long frontpage because we have something way more interesting to follow namely a nuclear disaster! Also we now have something to bitch about! Yay!
After that Syria takes over the headlines with massacres because of protests against the current government.
(PS this also isnt over yet)
Sadly enough this headline didnt have time to hit us since a few days after.. KATE AND WILLIAM GOT MARRIED!
This was the most tweeted about event. It took over entire TV networks. In some countries they showed barely anything else. Millions of dollars were invested in it and people stayed up all night watching it and when they kissed on the balcony it was the "best moment of the year" according to some newsstations.
A few days later the jealous Americans thought "We can beat a wedding." so they shot bin Laden so we had yet again a new headline.
Now my question is to everyone here. Do any of you actually remember the first headline of the year? Its been 8 months.
Surely we all also remember the thing that got the Middle Eastern revolutions started right? And we also remember that North and South Korea were on the brink of an all out war?
Or was this all blotted out by the news that 2 people got married and 1 guy got shot?
Rethink your values people because at this moment we are the scum of the earth and all that we want is sensation and things to lose our lives in. We want to escape our daily lives and feel thrilled by so many things, its kind of sad.
