Trigonometry?

So I just noticed that I have 2 half year classes open on my schedule, and I've been wondering if I should take Trigonometry, I'm asking because I've been on gbatemp for a while, and the majority of the people are uni students or have turned into them. So should I? Geometry was incredibly easy for me and since Trigonometry is basically just expanding on geometry.

What do you want to do with your life? Computer Science or Math? If so, YESYESYESYES. Honestly, I can't see a reason to say no. What are your other choices?

I honestly don't know what I want to do, my strongest subjects are History and English which I'm taking AP for, I see you point there isn't a reason not too so I might as well take it , and I have many other choices over 50 but I didn't expect to have 2 empty classes after choosing my classes carefully.

Yes! You can NEVER go wrong with maths. Trigonometry is also very important in many fields... sine and cosine functions are used in almost every more advanced maths course in some way or another... so learning it is awesome!

I never took trig. They always taught enough of it in the regular math classes to be useful. You'll be using some trig in calculus but they go over it and all you need is a 3x5" card to write it down on and it isn't all that difficult. Dedicating an entire class to it? Well.. I guess one could but I know I won't ever need to take that course. I went from math to algebra 1 (no pre-algebra) to geometry to algebra II to advanced math in high school, then calculus 1 (calc 1 is a very very easy class) and calculus 2, calculus 3...so all the higher math I took and no trig class at all. I guess it all depends on what is being offered to you.

But now I can't recall any calc or anything so I gotta relearn some of it and go back through calc 3 and engineering statistics because I haven't gone to college in ages.

As far as calculus goes, I did that 3x5" card and re-learned all the trig from the previous semester in 2 days (memorized it all) and then continued on the calculus homework and tests, it was a breeze.

Now, when you reach calculus 3 and engineering statistics..those classes are pretty difficult.

calculus 1 basically is a class all about how to graph a parabola using differentiation, calculus 2 is (oh I'm probably wrong about this) differentiation by parts, and calculus 3 is 3 dimensional calculus. When you have x,y, and z coordinate things get really complex.

Thank you all for your help, since it would be idiotic not to take Trigonometry after hearing what you all have said. Oh and amptor I guess what your saying is true because Trig is only a half year course instead of a full year.

ohh I didn't realize that but that makes sense. though I'm not sure what they'd pair it up with in high school because you need a full year of math for a student there. at community college, yeah it definitely is just one semester. I'm guessing that advanced math for me was algebra II with trigonometry and that class was freaking difficult. But it was an AP class I took anyway so I got a grade out of it.

take it

helps in SAT I alot as well (and SAT II if you'l also end up taking it)

not so hard, just practie a lot.

Trig, to me, was very easy so I'm wondering if you'll be better served by taking a more challenging math course like Pre-cal or Calculus. You'll see plenty of trig in either course so you'll still learn it just fine.

I want to get a really high score on the SAT, thank you for the advice I will try to get into a trig class as soon as possible

I'm only a junior so I'll be taking pre-cal next year, oh and since you said that I'll see it a lot, will I see it in physics? Since I'll be taking that this year.

When you do mechanics in physics you will be seeing some basic trigonometry and, if you go advanced enough, some calculus as well.

whatever you learn NEVER goes to waste, especially if you end up going to college and university

i remember how most of my friends ridiculed me when i took advanced and extra chemistry classes and calculus back in the 12th grade

when i got into university, i pretty much breezed through calc I and II, mechanics, and chemistry during freshman year

im now a pharmacy student; life's good.

What's funny is that i made some money off of it by tutoring. It was also a great start to my GPA, so even if you end up taking it, and you may or may not find it difficult (regardless) it will still pay off some way or another in the end.
