Gaming is such a luxury here

Gaming in the Philippines? Pain in the a$$

Taxes, duties, and liabilities are as high as it can be. And local retailers are selling it for a nice chunk of profit.

I got my 3DS two days after US release. It cost me $300 for the unit and $45 for every game. Exchange rates are ridiculously high. 43-45Pesos per Dollar.

And now comes the Vita. 250$ for the wifi model. Converting that 250 gives me about 10k-11k.

Browsing on different sellers. They are selling it for about 16k-18k a unit. Thats $350-400. Just wow. I just can't imagine how are they going to price their games.

I really hope there are US gamestores like Gamestop and the likes here. So that fair pricing of video gaming goods will be present here.

I know that its their marketing thing or something and I know no one is forcing me to buy their goods but its just really make me "sad/"insert something here".

And importing things from abroad will make the price almost triples. Example, I imported Monster Hunter Portable 3rd from play-asia. Price is 1700Pesos/$37. But before I got it, taxes etc made me pay about 4200Pesos/$90+.

Dude trust me, I know *EXACTLY* how you feel.
It's the same thing here. Game stores just raise the prices way too much, and don't even get the games at launch.
My bro's getting a vita. He can save $150 by getting it off amazon.

Gaming is a luxury, no matter the country.

Gaming is a luxury. I usually buy older games/used games - and I think that the 3DS is the only one that I bought quite early.

Gamestores like EBgames are worse, although. I buy most of the stuff online, anyhow.

Gaming is more of a luxury in third world countries and the like >_>

My point still stands.

The 3DS was $400 here when it came out, now after the price drop it's $300. The Vita WiFi model is $350 here (same as in the rest of Europe so that's okay I guess). 3DS games are between $50 (for shovelware) and $65 (for big titles).

Meh :glare:

A sure-fire method of cheap gaming is staying one generation behind. My consoles and games are always cheapo. :creep:

I know the feeling. Luckily I can go back and forth between Jamaica and America so I can just buy my consoles from the states. Don't get me started on PC parts, I'm stuck with a Radeon HD 6570 DDR3 which costed close to $120 US because this is the best card most tech stores near me have when I could have easily walked into a Best Buy and bought a 5770 (much better card) for the same amount of money. Shit pisses me off man.

We don't usually play and talk about portables here in my school.

It's always about PC and console gaming.

Portable gaming may be a luxury, but PC/laptop gaming isn't .
