Difficulty staying focused on a single game.

Okay, so.. This is probably gonna be pretty brief. I'm not a huge RPG guy. The only RPGs I've really played for long periods of time are Pokemon games. But recently, I've been trying to actually finish some of the RPGs I've been meaning to for a long time. First, I tried Aria of Sorrow and got to a point where my interest just kinda fizzled and I moved on. I feel kinda guilty doing that, but it's difficult to force myself to play a game I'm not really enjoying anymore, and there's other things I want to start on. Like Twilight Princess, or finally finishing Ocarina of Time. Sometimes, though, after a bit of a break, I feel like coming back to it-- Although it's hard to actually remember where the hell I was, what I was doing, et cetera, et cetera.. Any ideas on how to get me to like, actually stick with an RPG to the end? Maybe just.. shorter games?

Yo, I might be able to kind of point you in the right direction with AoS. IGAvanias can tend to be straightforward until it starts getting to stuff regarding endings. That's where GameFAQs-chan can come in handy for all of those kinds of games! ^_^

It's just that much harder these days, and I think it's pretty much just because we're so swamped with games - we've all got a backlog 'for a rainy day' that never seems to shrink! But like back 'when I was lad, dragged up with no money' and all I'd have was maybe 5 games (and a lot more free time as a kid!) then yeah completing everything I got was second nature. All 96 levels in Super Mario World? Hell yeah, took me about 2 weeks max, without the internet to help out - but all the moons in Super Mario Odyssey? I played for A BIT after beating Bowser, but just couldn't be arsed, and it's not as if that was a bad game!

As for tips to beat, well I dunno really! I'm in the same boat as you, and I bet there's others! Certainly having a bit of a break is no use, you just can't get back into it..
Maybe just shorter games yes!

Hello,my Freind.:)

I maybe can comprehend your Situation.
RPG´s are very "time consuming" Games and also "Long Time" Games.

Personal I can say,it maybe depends most of the Times on the "Life Situation".
If you have a "lot to do" you may have not the time to play a RPG.

Last Example: Dragon Quest XI.
I love this Game (Series).
I played the first 10 - 15 Hours in near one Piece.

..and then "Life" comes around the Corner....
Work,Family,"other" unforeseen Consequences"....

And now the Game "rests" until 2 Weeks...
So for me,I consider it really good to begin a RPG.

Fire Emblem,Suikoden,Dragon Quest Games.....when I look over the Save Games.....
Started, played many Days in one Piece...and then it stops.....

So,yes,I can understand your Situation very well.:)
(But unfortunately I have no Solution for you,my Friend..)

Aria of Sorrow already is a short but very good game and a good starting point. If there wasn't the heavy luck based soul collecting for 100% and getting Chaos Ring it would barely last a few hours. (The 100% tool assisted speedrun is worth watching. Dang it! That precision and that luck manipulation…)

Newer games tend to be longer but are often easy to beat and maybe even have "loser help" (lowering the difficulty beyond belief or playing itself and counting this a a win for the player). Doing 100% runs of modern games is definitely the real challenge and can be an endurance test.

I can relate to the general problem. Playing new games (in the sense: I don't already know "everything" about them) is pretty hard for me and concentration issues forced me to start over a few times.

Lol are we the same person or what hehe.

I only like to play pokemon until the end these days and I am forcing myself to finish persona 5 royal.

I finished the original P5 last real without a guide. This time I only play play P5R with my phone to chose the right answers ...... So I am not really happy.

What made it worst to me is that my cousin bought persona 5 royal too and I get jealous if he finished it before me hehe. I dont know why ? Hehe

Welcome to my life. I love RPG’s. Just at the end of the day, after putting kids to bed, I’m pretty tired and just want to zone out. I end up playing puzzle quest or a few races in ridge racer, Mario kart, or gadget racers. Something short. I just can’t keep focus when I’m tired.

I HATE RPG's because they're fucking slow paced games. And most of the times, no matter how good you get at them "luck" will always determine your chances of winning or loosing.
I fail to see why is such a popular genre when most of the games are the same fucking shit but with different artwork.

So, no it's not like you're failing at "getting focused on one game" to actually stick to the end. The truth is that you don't enjoy RPG's and you haven't realized that out.

Also... Aria of Sorrow and Zelda are not RPG's but Action-RPG.
RPG's are turn based like Pokemon and fucking Final Fantashit and Paper Mario and that other shit that are copies of the same shit.

I don't know you, but I've lost the interest in videogames since probably 1 year ago.
The only games I've been "playing" (for 5 minutes or less) is whichever Street Fighter I can find.
Just saying that, probably... probably you're loosing interest in videogames too?

Only way to stick to a game is to enjoy the game if it wasn't obvious. No one continues to play a game they don't like. Though, sometimes I enjoy a game and I don't finish it. That's probably cause something more interesting shows up. So maybe find a time where you got nothing else better to do.

Take away all your distractions. No tv, no pc, no... other consoles. Even sometimes when you got nothing else to do, you do what you got. How you think people finish those difficult games back in the day? Renting one game for the weekend with nothing but you and that game. :ninja:

@KleinesSinchen Yeah, it was the soul finding thing that stopped me from finishing it, 'cause you have to get certain souls to get to certain areas, and it felt like I'd already been everywhere (And I had, according to my maps), and I really didn't wanna start grinding things in hope I just stumble across the right soul I need to progress.

@JuanMena ...Well then. I doubt it's a loss of interest in video games as a whole, 'cause I still play Splatoon 2 near daily, Animal Crossing still steals a bunch of my time, and I still kick ass in Halo on a regular basis. It's just RPGs I seem to abandon regularly.

@Sonic Angel Knight Yeah, you do have a point. Maybe I should just stop feeling so guilty about not finishing certain games, then? It might be a self-imposed issue over something that's pretty normal..

And oh, man, I didn't grow up in the 80s or 90s, so I wasn't there for the big boom of renting games, but I do remember going to Blockbuster and picking out an Xbox game that I'd be stuck with for the weekend. And it didn't always work out very well..

@StrayGuitarist There's only two souls you have to grind for that you need equipped when fighting the final boss to get the true ending. (They're both in the Top Floor if I remember right, if not, then I know that the flame one is in the Underground Reservoir in the corridors leading up to a certain boss fight) The third and last one you need is found in the Arena. ;)

The souls aren't needed to do as much in this game as in the sequel Dawn of Sorrow. All you'll need are the three hinted at above in the final boss fight to get the true ending. ;)

This was pointed out already, Castlevania and zelda are not even close to being called RPGS.

Ill give you an example of some real rpgs, Chrono trigger, mario rpg, final fantasy 6,secret of mana, Lufia 1,2, Tales of symphonia, Phntasy star 2, Dragon quest 1-9,11(10 is a mmo rpg, different class of rpg) and of course xeonblade 1,x,2.
