Figgy Pizza [Recipe]

It may seem like a weird pizza but I swear it is delicious! I'll try to include some alternatives too. This was inspired by Prosciutto wrapped figs. Bacon wrapped Dates also.

Ingredients:
  • Pizza Dough - I usually just buy pre-made at a local bakery. But you can make your own if you want.
  • Olive Oil
  • Figs - any kind will do. Fresh or Dried. Fig jam/marmalade can also work if you don't have access to figs. (You could also use Dates here. It's just as good but I don't have easy access to dates)
  • Prosciutto - Bacon can also work. Maybe salami.
  • Provolone - For the base layer of cheese, shouldn't be overpowering. Mozzarella works too.
  • Gorgonzola - or Blue Cheese. Goat cheese can also work.
  • Arugula - Or Spinach, Arugula preferred for the unique 'spicy lettuce' taste.
  • Balsamic Glaze - or Balsamic Vinegar. you can even make your own glaze, but easier to buy it.
  • (IF POSSIBLE) Black Truffle Salt - not needed but gives it an extra OOMPH!
Roll out your dough, spread olive oil evenly onto the dough. Then layer the Prov/mozz Cheese then the prosciutto. Finally layer the fig slices and gorgonzola. (Or if you are using fig jam you can put it on earlier, right on the olive oil). The idea is to let the figs dry out on top if they are fresh. [You can also drizzle honey at this stage too. I think it makes the pizza too sweet though.]

You should have something that resembles this:

Bake at a usual pizza temp. 375-400F, or ~200C

When the cheese looks golden, the crust done, and the figs semi-dried, pull the pizza out!

Finally, top with the (Truffle Salt), arugula, and balsamic glaze!

And there you have it! A semi-healthy pizza that tastes delicious!

Let me hear any questions or suggestions!

you could totally add some shrooms! No recipe is set in stone!

I hadn't thought about it but some chanterelles would probably be great on it! Maybe Shiitake too.

I usually make 2 pizza at a time. One regular (meat cheese and shroom) pizza and a pizza like this. This way you get the best of both worlds.

(The cold left overs of the fig pizza are amazing too!)
