Finally have heating

Long story short, my gas wall furnace was a model that was recalled due to having the risk of exploding in a big fireball, melting, and burning down the house. My friendly local gasfitter super kindly helped me find a second hand replacement, and installed it, so I finally have heating!!!! Has been an ongoing process over like six weeks. I'm not used to having gas and it makes the air have a sort of cooked smell to it, which is sort of cosy at the same time. I have been sitting on front of it warming my toes for like half an hour now. Feels soooooo nice.

In other news, have induction for my new job on the morning of the 6th, and in the evening there will be some drinks so everyone who is starting can meet each other. Starting officially on the 12th. And I'm signing my employment contract tomorrow morning. So excited to finally be working again. And the building is only a half hour cycle from my house so I can go back to cycling to work and lose some weight. And my last exam ever is on the 7th at 1pm. Very exciting times! I have been studying on and off for about twelve years now so glad to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I bet it's nice, gas and wood heaters are just the best:P Good for you, grab a book when it gets cold and warm cocoa and you are set for a comfy time! Even better if you got someone to cuddle with...

Just finished my last online lecture.... So sad for that to be over now. I'll probably have to start a Masters soon once I start getting learning withdrawal.

Having seen the result of failed stoves it is best such things were sorted.

For the most part I find that only means the learning has just started. It now just becomes self directed.

How did you stay warm in the last six weeks? Or were you freezing your butt off, drinking hot cocoa constantly? Anyways, good to hear that you're doing good. Hopefully you'll have fun at your job! <3

@SirNapkin1334 i had a little electric fan heater that I had pointed at my feet most of the time. It was always either burning or freezing though!

Just signed my contract, they can't take it away from me now!!!!!

I'll be a contractor rather than a normal employee, which is a bit scary, since it means I have to manage my own superannuation and tax, and they can fire me at any second. But I was planning on working really hard and making everyone happy anyway, so should be fine, hopefully.

Hopefully you are also making that contractor money -- if they are not paying a pension, whatever the equivalent of national security is there and providing no job security then you tend get paid equivalently, and if not then many would say you are being mugged. Do also look into if you require professional liability insurance as you might not (read most likely will not) be covered under theirs for any external work done.

Equally I don't know Australian tax law but here, and many other places, many contractors set themselves up as a limited company, pay themselves a minimal salary and then pay themselves a dividend which attracts a lower tax rate.

Heating? Want some of the Swedish weather? It's so warm now that our city just put out a press release to ask people to save water since so many are using it.

Take some VA weather please. It's not even summer and it's unbearably fucking hot, and I have a high heat tolerance!

Did my exam today. Was fine! Many questions were the same as on the 2015 exam that we were given to study with. Other ones were a bit out of left field, but I managed ok. I think maybe 80% estimate. Exam is worth 50%, so depending on what I get for the last assessment (they still haven't marked it) I may get a Distinction overall! But at least a Credit. I wish the results would hurry up and come out, will be at least a couple of weeks :(
The induction and drinks yesterday went well, met most of the other people in the program. Got on well with a guy called Allah (that's what it sounded like, but probably not how you spell it - what parent would name their child God??) who had a similar accent to the character Borat but not as extreme, was softer and more polite. And a nice girl called Sharon, who is a bit older than me, estimate around 35-38. I feel positive about trying to make friends again after losing Katie.
Starting work on 12th June. All in all in very happy!!! I CANNOT wait until my first payday - have had to borrow money to pay this fortnight's mortgage payment :-/
