Giant African Land Snails

Ok so I have 4 Giant African Land Snails. The only thing is I'm not too sure what species they are, so I was wondering is anybody here good with all that stuff. I'll post pictures if anybody wants to see them.

We have some slugs here in Florida that are about 4-5 inches long (slugs are snails with no shell from what I can tell)

lol and yes salt is bad for them..... (I was evil as a child lol)

I can't find a decent picture on google so the next time I see one I will take a snapshot :)

They are kind of weird when they get huge.

All you need is some garlic, butter, and some white wine.... lol

Yeah I used to get a Q-tip, stick it in water, dip it in salt then stick it in a slugs breathing hole. How evil is that? Oh no I couldn't ever eat snails dirty escargo or however you wanna spell it.

Oh God, I almost threw up when looking at that picture. I hate mollusks, since their slimy gelatinous-like bodies gross me out. I hate snails, but slugs are even worse...I saw one that was like 5 or 6 inches before, and I accidentally stepped on it. This was when I was like 8 or 9, so I didn't think it was gross.

I used to hate slugs and snails. I still hate slugs but I like snails now though. Snails are seriously misunderstood creatures. They're sexy little fuckers.

Do all of your snails look the same? Do you think you have several different breeds?

I was actually thinking of getting some of those a little while ago..
They are pretty awesome.

That's a huge mofo lol

BTW what does it mean when a snail starts to make bubbles and disappear into their shells?

I saw this when I was much younger. Then my chicken walked by and ate it o.O

No they're all the same species, just different sizes. I think their species is Achatina fulica.

I'm not sure, my snails go into their shells if they get too cold or hungry but they don't usually bubble. Maybe it ate something salty, extra flavour for your chicken.

Ahah Hmm maybe... The chicken was actually random, I was just sitting there watching a garden snail bubble til it was frothing over then my chicken made a noise, sped towards it and ate it o.O

What do you feed it? Food waste?

Sounds yummy lol.

I feed them cucumber, lettuce, carrots, watermelon on rare occasions (it can give them colic which is fatal for a snail, I don't want them to explode.) and cuttle fish bone to keep their shells in good condition.

That's a huge ass snail :wtf:

got more pics? :P

moar q's:
How do you deal with the snails' eggs? Do they even lay eggs? :P

He/she was hiding in its shell. I've heard what people think about the coincidental look when they're coming out of their shells.

Well when they lay eggs you either boil them or freeze them then dispose of them in the trash. They lay about 200 eggs a time so keeping up with them can be difficult but I don't mind. I've kept 1 batch of eggs but they didn't hatch. They've recently layed eggs that have hatched since. It'll take about 2 more days before they come to the surface.
