Guh. Modeling!?

So a few months ago my friend apparently signed me up for this casting call for models and stuff for commercials and fashion shows... the only reason why I know this is because yesterday I got a call from this lady telling me I was one of the people chosen for the casting!

I was like WTF!!?

I don't even know what I'm supposed to do T.T

Has anyone ever done this before and wanna give me tips? All the lady said was, "to be myself, to have personality" and that "we just want to see if you're a natural on camera, etc. etc."

I hate being on camera... >.>

I would have to say most of us here are boys, and so we most likely don't know anything about modeling... but maybe you'll have fun! If it works out, it could be cool right? So good luck! :)

I don't know why your asking this of a site that is predominantly young male nerds (we're not usually asked to model, you know :) ), but I've heard that good models just relax and be themselves. Flirt with the cameraman too, that helps. :P

i've done modeling casting calls. they just basically make you smile, not smile etc. i got selected for a photo shoot but i didn't go.

Hahaha that was what I was thinking too but it seems legit. It's taking place at the mall.

Ooh okayy. I'm still a little nervous. She also said they're going to give me lines to say in front of the camera too... I hope my inner fob doesn't come out! D:

To be honest, I would avoid meeting them.

You are a gamer, this field is not for you.

They take advantage of young girls; the average girl wishes for fame, beauty, and fortune... something that is depicted in modeling. They lure young girls out and force them to do things most people should never have to do.

Unless you can verify the people who will be interviewing you, I would avoid meeting them.

I don't even know you or the situation; but something in my unconscious is telling me there is about a 35% chance you will be taken advantage of and a 75% chance you will regret going if you go.

Oh damn, you are 110% sure. :O

Lmao, that's some serious confidence.

It was more 35% chance the interviewers are looking for bad intentions and she gets what she thinks is like a dream job but months down the road they make her do things she doesn't want to do.

Or it was 75% sure that she would go there, whether or not they have good or bad intentions, she feels it was a waste of time for her interview or something she regrets.

So the events aren't necessarily mutually exclusive and overlap at some point, so it's ok if they add up to 110% :)

If it is at a mall, go for it... too many people around to do something...
and here's something:
Be yourself. don't ACT yourself, be yourself. big difference!
It's like when you walk by a really good looking boy / girl, and you feel that your legs aren't doing what you want them to...and then you act normal... well, it's noticable and bad.

just relax, think that you are who you are, and you can't change it. if they like you they like you, if they don't then they don't. don't push yourself to be something you're not.

Let your personality shine through! If you are a happy nerdy girl, let it show! If you are shy, let it show.

aaand... that's what I have to offer... (and I've stood model a few times.. for a friends school project only... but it's something atleast!)

humm I suppose... but there are models who started out on like G4 and stuff xD (or was it vice versa...?)

and I don't know that they'll make me do stuff I'll regret.. unless its casting for like a porn or something in which case I'll get the heck out of there xD

but its at the mall. i doubt they'll do casting for that kinda stuff there lol.

hehe this is really good advice... thanks~~ ^^

They can't make you do anything that you don't want to do. If you go and at any point you feel uncomfortable doing anything you're asked to do just say no you won't do it. And by that i don't mean embarrassed as the whole situation will be unnatural to you so you're bound to feel a bit awkward, but if you start feeling that they're pushing for something you don't want to do then just excuse yourself.

You never know this could turn out well and you could earn some easy cash and perhaps even set yourself on a career path. All you need do is just try not to think too much and pretend that you're acting out a part.

Not quite, like I said, they lure you in.

My dad investigated a group who was trafficking girls. For the first few months they would make it seem like a normal modeling business. Then they would let the teenager know there is a gig in a foreign country like France. Their parents would never see them again.

Modeling just doesn't happen randomly. I have a group of high school friends who are victoria secret models. I have joined them at a few parties and asked how they got into the modeling business. Random people didn't call them to model and they model for one of the most well known modeling company.

---

Aside from the shadowy business that none of you will seem to understand (these criminals are smart, they don't make it obvious); modeling is not a great job. Even if you do land into a modeling job, there is a shit fuck lots of pressure on you. You won't be able to look at another prettier girl because you will feel the impulse to make yourself throw up, to start going on diets, to run until your heart explodes mainly because it is competitive both physically and mentally. Look on google images, and look at those models. That's not what you want to do.

However, if I'm wrong, then be my guest. Welcome to GBAtemp.

I tend to agree with Zetta_x. I took modeling classes and did a newspaper ad as a child and though that's not the same at all as teenage/adult modeling, there were girls in my class were already prepared to jump on the dangerous boat of eating disorders and exhaustion in order to get into the big girls' game. I actually wound up deciding to do gymnastics instead, just because it looked way more fun than wearing clothes for money, i wasn't thinking of money.

As a career it's a dangerous and unachievable lifestyle that will shorten one's life, but if it's for supplement income only and doing things like regional commercials and magazine/catalog shoots, then I think you're probably safe. I recommend looking at http://modelsadvocate.com/

edit: and there are some, though few, TV/film stars that got recruited from regional or national commercial spots. (it's usually kids that wound up in the business because they got an agent early on after successful commercial gigs like Elijah Wood). so you never know. you might get a modeling related job that's a very fun and difficult opportunity to land.

zetta's responses made me think of taken, pretty good movie, and i'm surprised by the amount of legitimate advice in this thread

Oh wow, gosh thanks for all the legitimate advice and concern from everyone on this thread~~

just wanted to let you all know I'm safe~~

lolol I was SOOO nervous! they had a catwalk set up at the mall and at first I thought it was just going to be like an interview and some picture taking but they made all the people trying out read a script, AND walk the catwalk (on which you have to strike three poses, one at the front of the catwalk, middle, and back)-- all in front of like the entire mall! I'm just glad it wasn't busy today -.-"

I had a choice of three lines to say on stage. I picked the easiest one which is, "Do you have a passion for fashion? Then come see what's hot and what's not... at the American Mall Model Search!"

I thought I had it down but I got nervous when I got up in front of everyone, and I said "Model SHOW" instead of "Search". Then I made this awkward giggle/gag cause I messed up -.-

Then at the end they made us wait before announcing the people who would make it to the next round for the photoshoot... At first I didn't care if I made it because I wasn't too sure about the whole thing, so when they called the first 5 (out of 6) people who made it to the next round I was just like "whatever..."

and then they called me!!! :O

on the comments thing the judges wrote down they wrote (among other things) that I had the best outfit, an adorable personality, cool style, photogenic, beautiful eyes, etc. (oh gosh I feel so conceided right now) but then they also said I need to work on being less stiff, to slow down and not rush, and to practice my lines more. -.-"

hehehe. I have to go back tomorrow for a photoshoot, and if I pass THAT, I have to do another photoshoot, and then prepare like a 45 second thing where I show off my talents... >.>

gyaaa I'm nervous~~~

Congrats! Hope you pass the next photoshoot! So...what kind of talents do you have? :creep: You should totally bring in a DS and just sit there and play it

O nice, good look :D
Modelling isn't that bad at all, they just take pictures, and if you're doing a scene with other people you can just talk to them at the same time c:
