I can't bring myself to like the 8th gen consoles ( with exceptions)

When saying 8th gen console, I'm referring to the 2 main big dudes ( Xbox One and PS4 ).
I have a PS3 for over a year now and if I had saved a little bit more, I'd be able to have bought a PS4 ( although, with no games and with just one controller ).

At first I wasn't quite sure if I did the right thing, seeing as how the PS3 was already many many years old by that point, but then I got the chance to try out a PS4, and it wasn't bad but... I just saw nothing special.
Of course I was impressed with the shiny visuals of Uncharted 4 and the better textures in GTA V, with it's beautiful main menu and really good online services... but it felt like nothing new. While the PS2 from PS3 transition was something huge and completely changed how the console worked and defined how games would be like, the PS3 to PS4 transition in the other hand just felt like improvements and literally nothing else.

It's like updating your PC mid-gen, it's not really needed but you might not get the best graphics and performance if you decide not to do so.

Of course an update was long overdue. The PS3 with it's weak hardware just wouldn't be able to keep up.
And Sony really got it right in that aspect, it sure as heck was a damn upgrade, a huge upgrade. They made an amazing console that looks nice, but it feels the same and plays like nothing special.

The same could be said about the Xbox One, it's even worse in this case. There's not much to talk about, it's just an Xbox 360 with a clusterfuck of a UI and more power. The controller is nice I guess, but I just use that in my PC.
---

What are the exceptions though? It should be quite obvious what direction I'm heading with this.
Wii U, Switch, 3DS and Vita.
These are the exceptions.

I've had a chance to play all of them ( besides the Switch, but it's still fairly new and there's no fucking way someone in my town is going to own one ). And holy balls, they're all good.

Specially the 3DS and Vita, I love portable consoles and this is so far the peak of handheld gaming ( besides the switch lol ). They are not very powerful, but are still light years ahead any other portable console we've had so far and they actually feel like a big step up from their past gen counter parts. They actually feel new, they actually feel nice to play. They offer something new and that's what matters the most when you have a new generation coming out.
It's kinda hard to call the Wii U an "8th gen console" but in my viewpoint it is one, it's kind of contradictory though because from my viewpoint the Switch should be a "9th gen console", but fuck it, I like to be arbitrary, I'll get this sorted out when this generation is over, the mere fact that this Switch came out this soon makes me question this generation thing, but I guess people must have felt like that with the Saturn to Dreamcast thing because of SEGA's fuck up ( very much like Nintendo's fuck up ).

Anyways, PC master race.
( Can someone borrow me their PSN account? I want to use my PS3 for something else other than Persona, my library has been all beaten already :c )

Well, just think of it as Nintendo is the only relevant 8th generation. I'd separate it into: Switch is a different beast. 1st gen for portable-home console.

Well no one likes everything, i don't.
Ps4 can't play audio cd, ps3 can, why? Wii u can't backup save data, wii can, why? Xbox one tried to turn a game console into a pc media system and maybe gave it a worse name than wii u. There will always be change and someone will complain, is life. Acceptance is what sets us apart from the others.

Actually ignore this, it will just generate more complaints. :P

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
