I completed AM2R!

I played AM2R for the first time this month, when the team released a patch and version for Android.
I always tried to play Metroid 2 on Gameboy, but never went past the first metroid, I don't know why but I always remember it as an action game, instead of a "metroidvania".
people told me Metroid2 was different and not that good, and it was like "you kill one metroid, you open a zone, you kill the other, you open a zone, and so on" I always felt like it was more linear.

Now I finally had the chance to play Metroid 2, and I loved it !
It's not what I thought, and it's as good as Super Metroid 3.
AM2R is really good, in all points. 16 bit graphic are amazing, sound, playability.
I really enjoyed playing a new fresh metroid game, not playing an old one again and again :)

I'm waiting for the next 2D metroid games now.

I'm sad, I got only 97% in 10 hours.
I spend 2 more hours returning to many places but didn't find 3 last items.
the map doesn't help, so it might be hidden areas without markers on the map, like fake walls instead of special breakable blocs.

I noticed there's a newgame+ and fusion mode now, with all areas already accessible from the start, it could be fun to try getting powers in the wrong order.
And it's funny how the baby metroid is helping around (or resuscitating enemies!).

Have you tried the official Metroid 2 remake then? I haven't yet, I was a bit miffed on the whole "to unlock everything, you need Amiibos and an amiibo reader or a newer 3DS"... and I don't have any of those.

But there are save games to download and use that has every amiibo thing unlocked already.

I didn't play the official Metroid 2 Samus Return on 3DS yet.
I don't have any of the addons either (no amiibo, simple old 3DS, etc.), I sometime thought I'd buy a nfc reader/writer, but never did.

My 3DS is still on an old firmware, I'll have to update it one day.
now that I played AM2R, it would be interesting to see any differences with the official remake, or even try the original gameboy version.

I also never play games on PC. I prefer consoles for that reasons:
1) it just works, no need to care about requirement, drivers, breaking compatibility and other programs, and
2) my PC is my working tool, I don't like not seeing my programs and what's happening in the background. I also fear a crash (it happened too often with games and driver issues!) and losing all my unsaved work, etc.

This Android release was a great opportunity to play that game, or else I'd have never play it on PC.

not really, but you do catch metroids all the same, but the game feels different from AM2R. AM2R to me seems more action, interesting, nicer looking, harder in sense it feels engaging. I felt sleepy playing official remake, and wanted it to end fast... i forced my self to like it, where AM2R blew me out with everything.

but its a good game, not bad, and its official, just bland and a bit repetitive. Only the ending was interesting, the ending fight i mean! Thats where i felt awake lol, but sadly, the game was over.

thanks for that info.
I think I'll still try it one day, just for completion.
there are still one metroid game I never played (the prime series on 3DS I think, but it's online only? I always play offline and have no friend to play co-op. not sure it's worth it anyway)

The 3DS Metroid Prime? That football game that had nothing to do with Metroid? :P

Did you play Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS?

By the way Cyan, and @Metoroid0, which is your favourite (or top 3) Metroid game(s)?

.
1st : Super Metroid 3 Snes (probably the one I played the most, and for nostalgia reason)
2. I also liked a lot Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (not 3, too linear, no exploration, boring and no story)
3. then Zero mission and AM2R, great remake, both.
4. Fusion (great one, but too bad there's no more metroid in a metroid game. the idea was nice, game and progression very good)

yes, I played Prime hunter (I'm stuck on last boss è_é)
I liked it. but it was a little too much back and forth. 4 areas that you visit twice to get 2 power in each, unlocking the other area etc., so I liked it for the game and realization, for a DS game it was great. I liked it less for the progression. you did just "zigzag" with a boss at each end. area A B A C B D C D end, no real exploration to unlock things.
I liked it was in the beginning of the prime series's story, adding more details to that period of time, with federation and other hunters.

That's cool that it's for Android i did not know that and I'm definitely going to get it. But what is super Metroid 3? Is there another metroid fan game on this tier of quality?

it's Metroid 3 on Super nintendo.
AM2R is using the same graphics quality and level design than the Super metroid game on Snes.

there is another fan metroid game using the same look : Metroid redesign.
it's a Modded version of the Snes game, seen as one of the best mod for Super metroid.
I started it but didn't complete it (One day I will !). it feels a little harder, removing some hidden power you have at the start of metroid2 or 3 but you don't know about : wall jumping, or grabbing at the border of a plateform. You get these ability later as power up, while you have them from the start in nintendo's games but you learn how to use it later. On the original metroid 3, people abuses these powers to go to areas you are not supposed to go, and use them to do speed runs.
