I saw a lady almost die

Today in church, some old lady sitting next to my mom looked like she was snoring really loudly and she had her head back, but then she started to sound like she was gasping for breath, and she was making all these freaky noises and then she started barfing and some volunteer ladies were trying to help her, and they lied her down, but then she started barfing again so by that point I went to the back, but then an ambulance came, and she was taken out on a stretcher. It was pretty freaky. But what pissed me off was the priest pretended like nothing was happening, he just kept going on with the mass while some dying lady is being hoisted onto a stretcher. He reminded me of one of those divas where they have that 'This is my party, no one is going to ruin it' attitude. He made me mad

Omg, poor lady. I hope she's well now.

Yeah, he should have interrupted the function >_>

How insensitive

G
made me lol.
oh wait, is this a lol moment or not?

Thats horrible, what the priest did. I wouldn't be a member of his congregation anymore I mean really, wheres the communal love and appreciation there?

Just imagine if my brother were to have have a seizure while asking him for advice.

Him: Well, child, you need to first decide what you want from your life--do you have a philosophy that guides you in your most important decisions? I always say...
Me: Well, Mr. Priest, I have a--a---
Brother: He-hey! *begins to jerk about in seizure like spasms*
Me: Oh no! I need help! someone call 911! Get me his bag!
Him: *looks at him writhing on the floor in disdain* As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted--you need a personal philosophy to base your life on, make a stand for something or you will fall for anything. Once you decide what you might like to do with your life then meditate, pray and for goodness sakes, get up out my floor, and stop rolling your eyes like that!

That was super lame. Some one ought to complain about that. Its so rude and insensitive is that guy seriously supposed to be an example for someone to follow?

I know, I was really mad at him. I'm glad I don't have to live here for much longer, because I really didn't like this priest ever

Its sounds like she had a seizure. I saw a kid have a seizure in my study hall last year, it was some freaky shit.

If people were helping the woman, what else could the priest do? Chances are he didn't know what was happening and noticed she was getting help, so he carried on to not interrupt for the others.

How did you know she was dying? How did he? She was getting taken into an ambulance, obviously into better hands than anything he can do.. unless you believe praying will make god save her. In which case he could of asked for a communal prayer.

Maybe if she got stabbed and he carried on, then it'd be annoying, but.. in my eyes, he did nothing wrong.

I saw a dying lady when I was twelve. The dying lady was my mom.
I was trolling the internet at 4 a.m., when I heard her get out of her bed across the hallway.
She had started complaining about a big headache, and was stumbling around and slurring her words.
I helped her into the living room, where she sat on the couch. I immediately called the police, and they came as well as an ambulance. She began to vomit and lose conciousness. We managed to get her into the back of the ambulance, where they took her to the hospital.
The policeman took my brother and I to my grandmother's house to wait until the family could come take me to the hospital (my grandmother's house was only a few miles away). I waited there for a few hours, got some sleep and was awoken by my uncle whom was taking me to the hospital. He told me and my brother that she's suffering from a stroke, she could possibly die. We get up to the waiting room. There's already my whole family and some friends there, either sobbing or cheering each other up. I didn't cry very much, as I didn't think it was so serious and I felt she wouldn't die.
They let my brother and my aunt and uncle go see my mom. She was unconcious and pale...I couldn't stand to look at her in this condition, so I left.
So, after a few more hours waiting, we left to get some lunch.
Me...well, I wasn't very hungry as I couldn't stop thinking about my mom and her condition.
We piss the rest of the day off, my cousin's trying to cheer us up and keep our mind off the situation (they took us to the movies to see the Dukes of Hazzard). Then we spent the rest of the day playing video games and whatnot.
Fell asleep and woke up to the sound of my aunt coming through the door crying. My mom had died and my life was changed. I'll never forget that day, as I'm sure you'll never forget this one.

At least I was trolling the internet when she had her stroke, or I'd of woken up to my mom dead...it could have been worse.

I don't get it.

It sounds like that woman did have a seizure, the last thing they should have done was lie her on her back if she was vomiting and lost conciousness. They should have checked to make sure her airway was clear and placed something in her mouth so she wouldn't bite her tounge. She could have choked on her own vomit if placed on her back.

I'm quite sorry to hear about your mother JPH. I'm very pleased by the positive outlook you end your post with as well. I'm not sure I could consider myself that strong of a person. More people should be educated to the symptoms of a stroke because they can be better treated if recognized in a short period of time. The symptoms would include Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body ,Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding ,Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination Sudden, severe headache with no known cause. I'm not saying you were expected to pick this up as a 12 year old, or that you could have done much with this knowledge but it is useful to have if you can convey it to a paramedic. I hope I meet the prospect of my parents death with such grace and understanding.

well that's one of the reasons why you never should go to church :teach:

but seriously it is horrible. i had a near dead experience myself and it isn't something you should make fun off

That was a sign from God telling you just how lame your priest is. Honestly, why didn't he do anything? Certainly not right...

I know this sounds a little odd. But I'm greatly interested in why the priest didn't do anything. Any way you could ask him why he didn't do anything? He needs to be confronted in some kind of way. I'd also be very interested.
Thanks if you can.

I see this a bit differently. The priest did do something to help: he gave everyone who wasn't involved in helping this woman something else to focus on. That last thing she needed was the whole congregation trying to get involved; they would have just gotten in the way and made it harder to help her.

And JPH, I feel for you. I had just turned 18 when my father died, and I remember the moment that I heard about it vividly. He was living in Texas at the time, while I was living with my mother in Portland. It was sudden - just a telephone call out of the blue that he had died. I remember my mind going a mile a minute trying to think of some way that it wasn't true, that it didn't really happen, but none of it made sense. After it finally sink in that he was gone, I just started crying, and I couldn't stop for days. Later that same night we got another call; when my 86 year old grandfather heard that his son had died he had a heart attack. He died about 24 hours after my father did. That was a bad day.

Sorry, that's bullshit. It only applies if you've talked to the person before, or if they died unfairly.

What could he do?
