I went to SCAD this weekend

Some of you may have noticed, but I was gone the past 3 days from the forum. Of course, most of you probably didn't notice or could care less if I left but that's not the subject of my blog post. The past 3 days, I was away to look at one of the best art colleges in the country.

SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) is like I previously stated, one of the top art schools in the United States. They offer many majors (I believe 40 majors) and over 50 minors. They offer their classes in 4 locations, including Atlanta, Lacoste (I think that's how you spell it), Hong Kong (Fall 2010), and of course Savannah. I plan to major in the Game Design and Development major. And I was really impressed with what I saw. The Montgomery Hall (which is the facility for students majoring in Game Design and Development, Animation, Graphic Design, Film and Television) had some really high-tech machines. If I remember, they have about 300 computers on each floor, and its a 3 story building so thats 900 computers in all and they look like they have the highest specs (I never got the chance to check). Computers are loaded with a bunch of software for your needs like Adobe Photoshop, ZBrush, Maya and some others I can't remember. There were just too many of them to memorize. I signed up for a workshop so I can experience what it's like in the GDD workshop and it was quite a cool and difficult experience. We were able to make a 3D version of a weapon from a game using Maya (I chose a gun from Gears of War) and it was VERY difficult. Everything has to be precise or you can risk messing up your entire model. If I get the chance, I may put up what I did.

The professors were also pretty cool as well. They have many professors that work with you from different places. They even have professors from companies such as High Voltage Software and EA Sports. They recently hired a professor that works from Crytek (the company that makes the Crysis games) to work for them. I never got to talk to said professors though. The classes are REALLY small. The max in the class is 20 students per class. Sometimes even lower then that. So it makes getting help easy when you need it and get some one-on-one time. I'd also like to mention that you have an 8/10 chance of getting the job in your major from many companies ranging from EA Sports to Ubisoft which is really cool.

There is a lot more I could discuss about but I'm afraid that I may tire myself out by typing it all out haha. But this is a really great private school and I recommend that anyone that wants to get into Game Development or any type of art to check out this school, it's truly worth it.

If you become a part of High Voltage I will give you free handjobs for life as long as you accept my crappy game ideas.

It's either High Voltage, Capcom, or Namco Bandai honestly lol. I really want to design games for Capcom.
