I will now ramble about Sonic Rom Hacks for a bit.

So one thing some people know about me is that I'm a sonic fan. Not one of those really weird ones that follows the series like a religion or obsesses over the color of Sonic's arms or anything but, I play some of the Sonic games and I enjoy some of them from time to time. They're what I grew up on. My personal favorite being Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, despite Sonic 3 being the one actual Genesis game I didn't have. I still have Sonic & Knuckles Lock-On Car lying around somewhere, I think.

Anyhow, one thing that fascinated me as I grew older is emulation and how it allowed these games from an older, simpler time to be enjoyed in modern hardware, often better than the original hardware could've provided.

Even to this day I mostly emulate my retro games, since having a 40" HD TV with only HDMI and single set of those old AV ports. While my TV has somewhat solid deinterlacing, it's hardly what I'd consider ideal. So I tend to run Genesis games on my modded Wii these days via Genesis Plus GX, which I have outfitted with a somewhat decent Wii2HDMI. All is well, for the most part.

Anyhow, I first discovered RomHacking when I was about 11 or 12 on the old computer we kept in our living room. When I was a kid I always thought it was rather strange that you could only use lock on with Sonic 2. (I didn't have 3 back then either, though, by the time I was 12, I'm fairly certain I had Sonic Mega Collection for the GameCube, of which I'm quite fond of, indeed) Anywho, it had always been a cool idea to be able to play as Tails or Knuckles in Sonic 1 to me, and that's how I got into Rom Hacking.

The moment I seen this, was the moment I think I really became interesting in not only emulation and rom hacking, but also hacking in general. The idea that someone could "just put knuckles in sonic 1" was mind boggling to me back then, and even today, with the technical knowledge I have, it's rather impressive. It's not much of a surprise the guy who made it is working on the new Sonic game, put it that way.

Truthfully I don't know where I'm going with this, but I guess the jist of what I'm saying here is that I find this stuff neat. If you guys haven't already, you should give some of the almost 200 or so Sonic Rom Hacks out there a try. Even if you don't find something you like, you're bound to find something that'll give ya a laugh at least.
