ineap's visit to Minecraft

So...because of a certain post in my previous blog, I registered an account on Minecraft and tested my internet's ability by going to the multiplayer classic thingy. I found a server called Tempcraft or something like that. It reminded me of GBAtemp so I went to that one.

I appeared in some sort of world between worlds. A message popped up telling me something about the portal on the right being open. I looked to the right and saw a bunch of doorway looking openings with blue...um...laser particles? Anyway, I decided to go into the portal on the right that had two green blocks over it. After I entered it, I expected to be warped somewhere...but I didn't.

I clicked the mouse a couple of times to make sure that wasn't the "Accept warp" button. Unfortunately, it took out part of the wall behind the portal instead. O_O

I was wondering what the crap I was supposed to do, so I walked around the relatively small world between worlds. I got bored really fast. I went back to the portal with the green blocks above it. I didn't know what to do, so I opened a new tab and checked my blog I made earlier. I noticed I had missed a joke, so I edited my reply to it. :ninja:

After reading about some sort of nude pics Rydian got in his email, and Monkat being forced to volunteer to keep his job, I decided to go back to Minecraft.

Woah! The screen was black! I wondered if I somehow broke it.
Then I saw something blink on then off the screen. After a few times I realized it said, "Loading." I figured out that it was because my internet was so slow that I had not made it through the portal earlier.

After waiting about half a minute I appeared in some sort of Guest world. I was amazed! I looked around, and I saw tons of amazing architecture! It was crazy amazing! I walked around randomly gawking at the sights. While I was doing so, someone named 'Sword' said something. 'Hi' was it? I can't remember...anyway, I tried talking to Sword. I pressed 't' and typed in something like, "my internet is really slow." I didn't see my message up with Sword's. This made me sad.

I then typed something like, "are my messages going through?"

...

nothing.

I decided to ignore it and continue exploring this crazy place. The lag with moving was crazy, but it next to disappeared when I brought the fog levels in. I then happened upon a library! I was amazed, it looked cool! I looked around, and I thought it looked like a kitchen inside a house. I went up the stairs and found a bedroom with a bed and other crazy stuff. I was blown away with how cool this place is. I leave the same way I came, and then wandered around some more.

I found what looked like an unfinished building made with metal(or was it rock?) bricks for the structure, and then glass filled in-between the metal(rock?). Since it looked unfinished, I wanted to try adding some to it. I looked towards the ground and clicked expecting a brick to appear. Unfortunately, I destroyed the ground brick instead of building on top of it! I realized that the right mouse button was the building button.

About this time, I all of a sudden saw my messages pop up!

"my internet is really slow."
"are my messages going through?"

I was surprised, then not so surprised when I considered how slow my internet was.

Sword immediately answered my past self.
"yeah, I think so."
"I got 'my internet is really slow.'"

I then decided to make one final message. It went something like, "I don't know when you'll get this, but..."
"my messages seem to appear about 3 min after I send them."

I decided that that should clear up why I wasn't responding to anything.

I went back to the hole I had made. I filled the bottom most one with dirt, but I couldn't find the grass top ground piece in the 'b' menu. D:
I saw in the instructions that I could copy another piece using the middle mouse button, but since I'm on a laptop...I have no middle mouse button...
I tried different pieces, and finally decided on some sort of half-height piece. I didn't like how ugly it looked with the sudden piece of half block in the ground. That's when I got an idea. I busied myself ridding all of the grass pieces that touched the building. I then put half pieces in all the holes.

I felt proud of myself for making something that looked at least half-way decent. I then climbed up towards the top of the unfinished building, and filled in some of the glass windows. I was happy. ^_^

I saw Sword say, "i g2g." The only reason I know this phrase is because I used to be a Runescape addict. Anyway, I decided that I was done with Minecraft for now, so I logged off.

Impression of Minecraft world: Extremely impressed. It looked like the whole world must have taken forever to build! I bet I only scratched the surface of what was out there. I definitely want to go back sometime.

Impression of my internet: Extremely disappointed. Having to wait 3 minutes for others to see your message isn't fun at all.

You made the right choice.

Yes, that's all that I got out of your whole post.

I found the multiplayer servers in both the free and paid-for version to be generally unfriendly and people un-cooperative, which was disappointing really. Anyway I had been reading about how great minecraft was for awhile now, and had tried it in the past but didn't understand it, after the whole server crash spiel last a few months ago where everyone was allowed to play for free I decided to give it another chance, and just play single player. It really is fun in a casual and leisurely way, I spent roughly 20-30 hours carving out a massive tunnel system and made little waterfalls and lava gardens deep underground. It's fun in a Sims kinda way, but to me there is no long term appeal.

tl;dr its a neat concept, and really fun. But waaaay too over-hyped.

It's over-hyped for good reason. The game has so much potential that people think whatever they think should be added in will be sooner or later. Obviously, this isn't going to happen.
Some servers are like that, others are actually very user-friendly.

The reason why most seem bad are because they're servers hosted on crappy computers with a 12 year old placed in front feeling the power of being "admin".

:P

I did live in Redmond, Washington for a few months a while back. ;)

I've kind of quit SMP all together. I stepped down from my admin position on TempCraft, because no one really respected me besides the other staff members (Mainly because they knew me for a long time, and most of the regular members are new). I just wasn't feeling the fun in it anymore, and it really took up too much of my time. Maybe I'll return, IDK...But as for now, it's singleplayer only for me.
