Had an interesting day today!
First, I got near the bus stop this morning just as the bus was coming along, I yelled and waved my arms from the other side of the road but he didn't see me. There were two other people at the bus stop, and neither of them thought to just stick out their arm and flag the bus for me! Thoughtless people!!!
Second, as I was walking to work from the bus stop, I saw a white van pull out of a parking lot really fast and lean over at an angle when it turned cause it was going so fast. The back of the van was open (hatchback) which I thought was weird. Then I walked past two transport officers on their portable radios saying things like, "rego number xxx", "heading south on xxx way", etc. I didn't get a chance to ask the transport officers any questions as they were hurrying in the direction the van went. But it looks like the van was stolen!! Maybe someone left the back open and someone took advantage, jumped in and took off with it! I have never witnessed any crime so it was pretty exciting. And when I was crossing the road 30 seconds later a police car appeared with lights flashing and I needed to give way to it, it ended up pulling into the car park the van was stolen from. When I was walking into work, the lady that usually mans the reception desk came out talking to someone about the police car wondering what was going on, I was able to fill her in about the stolen van. I bet she told everyone who came through and the rumour spread and it turned into like an armed robbery or something :-p
Then later in the morning, I walked past the corridor that leads to the toilets, and saw a woman leaning up against the wall, with her face touching it. I was still processing it as I walked past, then I thought, that's weird, I should see if she is ok. And just as I got back to the corridor, she fell down on the ground! She was whimpering and shaking, I ran over to her, and asked if she was ok, but she kept whimpering. I went to run to reception, but then I thought I shouldn't leave her, so instead I sat down next to her, put my jumper under her head, held her hand, and started yelling out for someone to come. Eventually someone did, and I told him to go find the nearest first aid officer. I stayed there and kept holding her hand and talking to her. Apparently she was home with the flu yesterday and thought she was well, but she got dizzy and fainted. It took ages for a first aid officer to come, the guy I originally sent came back a few times saying the first aid officers for several areas hadn't come into work yet (it was about 8.15am). When an officer finally came a few minutes later she was feeling better and I helped her up. Don't know what happened to her after that, but she probably went home! Hope she was ok!
I also finally had my first day of training for my job which I have been waiting for for weeks, but it kept getting delayed. It was really fun. I also got feedback on my first piece of work, so I have to try and fix it before training starts tomorrow, which is at 8.30, so I'll have to get in at like 7 which is the earliest people are allowed in the building :-s
