Is this really fair?

Today I got into a small argument over something that happened on Sunday. It doesn't quite seem fair to me since I held up my part of the deal but this is what happened:

On Sunday, my friend A texted me to come pick him up. His 360, for some odd reason, can't/won't sync up with wireless controllers. So he told me if I drove him over to another one of our friends house (friend B) then I could have said 360. He was going to the friend B's house to get his 360 which is why he was giving it to me. So I held up my end of the bargain, I drove him over to friend B's house and I got friend A's 360. So I drop him off and I go home. That same day, he texts me saying that the 360 he got from friend B had 1 red ring on it. The next day (yesterday), I managed to fix the 360 he gave me.

So today, friend A comes up to me cause he finds out I had fixed the 360 he gave to me and he wants it back. He said he would give me the red ring 360 for his back. I even offered to fix the red ring xbox but he says he doesn't want it fixed, he wants his xbox back. Of course, I didn't give it back to him and now he's being a bitch about it.

Funny thing is, I TOLD him I could fix his xbox or he could send it to Microsoft and get it fixed but he is too lazy and impatient to wait for it to get fixed. Question is, is it really fair to give him back his 360 even though we completed the deal? It just really doesn't seem that way to many. He's stubborn and he's making me seem like I'm in the wrong even though he knew I could fix it. And it seems like he's willing to risk our friendship on this damn xbox which I feel I rightfully own now.

Its true you held up your end of the bargain. Your completely in the right to do keep the 360. But coming from his side it would really have to suck. He gave away probably $300 not knowing it was still valuable. If you dont give the Xbox back it would probably be really awkward between you. Its your choice if you think he would be so stubborn after you say no.

It's not fair, but it's up to you to decide whether you want to ruin your friendship and keep the Xbox or give it back to keep your bond.
If I were you I wouldn't give up the Xbox, he sounds like such a jerk, but what do I know, right?.

in my book a deal is a deal no matter how big or small it may be...he should have never given it away in the first place but since he did its his loss and your gain.

This sounds simple enough, he gave you the 360 cuz he though it wasnt working, so the deal was completed, u managed to fix it after it was YOURS, so there is nothing he can do to make you give it back.

Now well, its your fault cuz u probably told him that u fixed the 360, so he though that now that its working he wants it back.

My advice, friends come a go, tell him that a deal is a deal, that once again u offer to FIX his rrod 360 and that if he doesnt want that then he can go F***k himself. Simple as that!

You gave him his options to get it fixed. He agreed to this "deal" after refusing the other options. Deal is made.

It would be fair to give it back IF he didn't know you could fix it, seeing as he did it's his own fault. Unless, it was all part of his plan to get you to fix it anyway then guilt trip for it back, but I doubt that. As you said he's being a bitch about it, let him deal with it.

thats why you never reveal what you have done...keep it vague. something like yeah i sold that xbox cuz it was broken and then i bought a new one, using the profit (i would tell him you got $50 on ebay minus shipping). then he thinks you got a different box and all would be good.

you are right to keep the box. its yours. he is the dumbass that made a stupid deal like that.

you performed a service for him in return for his broken xbox. A trade is a trade, and all trades are final.

Keep it. And maybe, juuuuuuuust maybe doing so will teach the whiny little snot some patience, like maybe next time he won't just dump the thing and actually try to fix it.

If you give it back to him I'm denying you any respect.

It's not your fault that he willingly gave you the X-Box and now he wants it back. It's yours, end of, I say if he doesn't want you to fix his X-Box, then screw him. Your X-Box you don't owe him anything. Try once more to see if he'll let you fix his X-Box and if he doesn't his loss.

Realistically, it's fair.
You made a verbal contract, a deal, that if you drove him to your other friends house to get the 360, you'd get his. You did that, so you fulfilled the contract and were entitled to receive the 360 for doing so.

The fact that you offered to fix the other 360 for him is also a very nice gesture.
I can understand his frustration obviously, but it's not your fault.

Keep the 360. Though if he desperately wanted it to play Halo Reach, you should probably hook a brotha up and let him play it at your house or something. If it's for any other reason, he's just being a nub.

Do most of you suffer from some kind of autism or other social disorder? Because you guys have some serious social issues, but heck, that's probably why most of you play video games after all, so I'm not really surprised.

Friends > $300. Give it back, just make clear that he was a fool for promising things so quickly. So make a bit of drama out of it so he'll learn from it.
It might not be fair but you've all been outside of your dusty room before, you should know that life ain't fair.

Also, with a decent mind, everyone should agree that the first trade was not fair either. Come on, being a taxi driver doesn't earn you $300 per hour either right? So TS should be happy with just a Xbox 360 with a RRoD. It's better than nothing right?

Bottom line is that you should give it back and save a friendship doing so, while still having the Xbox360 with a RRoD that could be fixed within 2 weeks. So is 2 weeks of waiting worth the loss of this friend? This is also how your friend should think about it, yet he wines. Just show you're the mature one.

Depends how much of a friend he is.

Not a very good one if he'd ruin a friendship over a material object he willingly gave to his friend for helping him out.

The best way to look at it is: Friend A is ruining the friendship because he made a deal with his buddy, and then decided he didn't want to keep his end of the deal, after it had been completed.

Sometimes, life isn't fair. If you want to keep your friends, you may have to make sacrifices.[/quote]

^ That.

Yeah, you need to make a choice. An xbox of a friend: Wich is more valuable?
Seriously, you need to talk it out otherwise you guys can get in a big conflict with each other.

Gotta love people who only see one side of an argument, or the most obvious and usually wrong answer/solution/moral choice.

I'd say keep it, and only offer to help fixing the other one. Not for the monetary value, it'll teach him a life lesson. He should've made sure everything was in order beforehand and incorporated that into the deal.
