Losing hair - is it normal?

I'm turning 19 next week, borderline healthy (not too skinny yet not too fat), I don't exercise that much (though I do long walks at least once a week) and I've been suffering from hair loss. Well, I only lose it when I wash my scalp. I don't lose any when I comb my hair or brush over it or something. Also, I don't lose A LOT of them. I counted when I scrubbed my hand over my scalp and I got like 7. So is it a serious matter or is it natural?

I'm planning to go to my GP but my mum said that it's more likely that they'll disregard it.

I say disregard it, hair loss is normal, when I brush mine the total amount of hair I loss is about the same size as a small lock of hair. And I'm not bald or anything, quite the opposite actually!

What is hair?

Try changing your diet. Certain vitamins can really work wonders for certain things.
Best Vitamins and Minerals for Hair

Vitamin A produces healthy sebum in the scalp. Vitamin E and vitamin C help with scalp circulation and restore moisture to hair. Vitamin B complex, copper, chromium and iron all help maintain hair color and prevent hair loss. Calcium and magnesium work together for healthy hair growth. Zinc works with vitamin A to keep hair healthy and avoid dryness.
I hope this helped.

I could really try this as well... My diet sucks.

dude, you lose over 100 hairs a day...
I'm a lot younger and even when I go through my hair once in a while, some fall out. So what? It's just normal.

You can be extra cautions and go see your GP (just in case) there are very rare cases were people loose their hair at such age.

And its completely normal, btw how long is your hair, i mean is it short cut, medium etc ? Usually the longer your hair grows the more you realize some falling out (this is so the case since the actual hair strand is just bigger and longer to see ;) ) anyway nothing to worry about.

It's normal, I have long hair and it falls out when I wash my hair, I don't like to say 'falls out' because it's most likely loose hairs that hang out until washed.

yeah i have to say its pretty normal to be visited by the hairloss fairy. As long as its not coming out in clumps your fine

7 hair a day is really not much. You lose between 30 and 40 each day normally. If it's more than 50, you should go and see a specialist.

Thanks :) I really need to sort out my diet too. Maybe having those 5-a-days would be a really healthy option.

Was gonna ask this for well. I have rather long hair for a dude and I lose plenty of hair when I run my hands through it. Just depends on how much hair is on your scalp.

And the average, as mentioned before, is between 40-50 hairs lost each day.

Same - especially when I take a shower. I brush my hair beforehand, and it's full of hair within a few uses, then in the shower I pull another 10 or so hairs out. I guess my hair gets ripped out during my sleepy-time hijinks.

If I bump my head on something the wrong way or even rub my scalp, heap upon heaps of hair falls out. I have mostly bald spots and I look like a chemo patient.

Just kidding, I love my hair.
