My sleep schedule is fucked up majorly

I have to get up at 5:50 or so and I go to sleep at 12-1. It results in me being very drowsy in school and barely able to keep my head up for the first few hours. I wish there was an easier way to fix it.

When I went to school, I used to sleep for two or three hours.
In my country, School starts at 7am and ends at 1pm or 3pm.
In my country, we have way more classes than most countries, so homework was a fucking pain.
Sometimes I finished homework at 2am only to sleep until 6am or even earlier in order to get a shower before school.
Repeat that routine for 15+ years and you'll be just fine.

Oh hey, now I sleep at 11pm and if I wake up at 5am is because I over sleep.
My routine consists in:
- Wake up
- Exercise for 3 or 4 hours if I'm not having body pain due to exercise
- Work from 9am to 6pm
- Chill till 11pm
- Sleep and wake up at 5am

Man, that sounds worse than what I have to deal with right now. How have you not been affected by sleep deprivation?

my dude, I feel ya. I fell asleep in the middle of band. while people were playing. I ended up having to pay for repairs to my horn.

Assuming "go to sleep at 12-1" is not because of some mandatory commitment but because dicking around on a computer into the wee hours is rather compelling there is an easy way to fix it, or at least there is for many things (there could still be an underlying condition yada yada yada). Don't eat for 24 hours, water is fine but avoid calories in the water.

We are basically still savannah dwelling monkeys so if your body starts down a starvation path it will tend to slow you down and get your sleep patterns somewhat on track. Some people seem aghast at the notion of not eating for 24 hours which I find quite sad really, then again it might be the truth to the "society is three meals away from revolution" phrase.

Alternatively there are chemicals. Caffeine is pretty effective (at first anyway), pretty cheap, available everywhere and socially acceptable pretty much the world over (the hardcore mormons and the rasta religion being the main two groups of any popularity that frown upon it).

Option 3. Sailor sleep. If you are solo sailing then obviously you can't be asleep for many hours at a time. Many in this world will then learn tricks to getting useful sleep in as low as 15 minute chunks. Find a suitable place to sleep at the school during lunch or whatever and go down for short periods. This takes a little while to get used to. Also three best times to kill a man are eating, sleeping and going for a shit and children are all sociopaths so make sure you select a good spot for this one.

Option 4. Sleep cycle tracking. There are many stages of sleep, the one most will heard of is REM sleep. You can get devices which track your sleep and wake you up when you are in a pattern. The poor man's version of this is the natural light alarm clock -- starting somewhat before the alarm actually goes off it will introduce more and more sunlight spectrum light (mimicking a sunrise) which is far better than a ringing/beeping/whatever from your alarm clock (or I suppose alarm tone on your phone/tablet as I am told people have those these days).

Some might tell you to avoid blue light (like those of screens) for one or more hours before bed, some people don't get how cool screens are though. Some might suggest https://justgetflux.com/ and its equivalent for phones (might even be built in for newer versions of various mobile operating systems) if they get how cool screens are. Some might say do nothing active during that time (reading something like a novel might be fine, heated forum discussion less so). There is a certain logic to all this but I agree screens are bloody compelling, especially if you have spent a day bored out of your skull at school.

Personally. I find the not eating thing more useful if you found yourself becoming more and more nocturnal as time went on (say a period without work/commitments) as a reset for that. Option 3, mainly in the form of an afternoon snooze/siesta does wonders for me, however I am free to do that sort of thing.
